"The Grace of Dripping Water Springs reciprocates" - our museum accepts donations of Liang Yulong's works

In recent years, cafarica art museums have paid attention to the basic role of collections in the development of art museums, and have improved the construction of collection sequences in art museums through extensive collection work. In the 20th century, Chinese art and higher art education are an important direction for the collection construction of art museums, and we continue to pay attention to the construction of the classic collection of famous teachers of the Academy of Fine Arts, supplement the collection of representative works of Mr. Lao of the Academy of Fine Arts, fill in the blanks, and enrich the collection sequence of the art museum.

After Mr. Liang Yulong's death in 2011, the museum has been in contact with his family for many years, hoping to add Mr. Liang Yulong's representative works to the museum's collection. In 2021, Ms. Liang Hao, a family member of Mr. Liang Yulong, on behalf of Liang Yulong's family, proposed to donate Liang Yulong's representative works to our museum. After active and friendly communication between the two sides, a number of representative works with the characteristics of the times by Mr. Liang Yulong were finally entered into the Tibetan Art Museum. For this generous donation from the family, our museum expresses its deep respect and gratitude.

Liang Yulong Self-prologue

Time flies so fast, I am eighty-nine years old this year, the wind and candles are dead, there are not many days to come, life is rushing by, and it is time to leave some traces. It is a record of the process, but also the crystallization of hard work, as a summary of life.

I am a native of Changsha, Hunan, born in Beijing in 1922, living in a turbulent era, the war continues, my father died very early, the family fell from well-off to poverty, the most difficult time was when I was in college, on the one hand, to raise tuition fees, on the other hand to support the family, the double pressure forced me to have to look for a job in the winter and summer vacations, which also gave me the opportunity to contact many aspects of art work, just by virtue of my spontaneous "talent", for the store to paint advertisements, write signboards, window design, He painted cartoons for film studios, cartoons and portraits for newspapers, etc. The tools used are also diverse. Oil paints, gouache, ink, paints, charcoal and so on. It's like eighteen martial arts come a little bit, but they are not exquisite.

In 1938, during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Japanese bombed everywhere, and my mother and sister fled to Chongqing, and in 1943 I was fortunate enough to be admitted to the art department of National Central University. I saw the masters I have admired and revered for a long time, Xu Beihong, Wu Zuoren, Qin Xuanfu, Lu Sibai, Huang Xianzhi, Fu Baoshi... This was a turning point in my life, when I began to receive an enlightened education in art, laid the foundation for painting, and at the same time understood advanced revolutionary ideology and participated in the student movement.

In May 1945, Japan surrendered, cuccidental was demobilized and returned to Nanjing, and the country began a civil war again, and I participated in the "Anti-Hunger, Anti-Persecution, Anti-Civil War" and "May 20" parades. I worked as an art editor at a newspaper, attacking the reactionary government of the time. Many cartoons were drawn and published in newspapers of the time.

After the liberation of Shanghai in May 1949, I joined the Shanghai Artists Association under the leadership of the Shanghai Party organization and got to know some of the artists of my predecessors, such as Mi Gu, Shen Tongheng, Yang Keyang, Zhang Wenwu, Zhao Yannian, Zhang Leping, etc. At the same time, he also served as the art editor of the Shanghai Popular Bookstore, organized the publication of the first edition of "New Year Paintings" after the liberation of Shanghai, and also drew some anti-enemy cartoons, which were published in newspapers and periodicals such as Liberation Daily and Wen Wei Po.

At the end of 1949, I received three letters from Xu Beihong, asking me to go to Beijing to assist in the art work of the Reform of Chinese Opera led by Mr. Tian Han. On January 1, 1950, he went to Beijing to fulfill the task given to me by Master Beihong. After working for a few months, I considered that opera work was not my profession, so I was admitted to the Central Academy of Fine Arts, did graduate school, and then learned painting from Xu Beihong.

In 1951, I was retained as an assistant teacher to Teacher Wu Zuoren, and at the same time accepted the task given by the school, and successively served as an art tutorial for the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, the Central Academy of Drama, and the Beijing Film Academy. Teaching is not an easy task, teachers should continue to enrich themselves, improve themselves, lesson preparation time is several times more than the teaching time, otherwise it will be backward, how to teach people, but to see the students who have been taught, can become outstanding painters or become excellent backbone of the art team, it is particularly gratifying, hard work is not in vain.

In the teaching of the Academy of Fine Arts, I met a simple and robust female student, Zhang Dehua, who was both good at character and learning. Later, he married him, grew old with a white head, and remained unswerving throughout his life.

In 1953, during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, as a Chinese Volunteer Army, I went deep into Korea twice to collect materials and paint military history paintings for the Railway Corps and the Memorial Hall of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army. In the same year, I followed Mr. Beihong to a construction site of a water conservancy project in Shandong to collect materials, Mr. Beihong in order to create some paintings praising new China, my task is to take care of the old man's body, and take photos, this is the teacher's hard work in his later years to create a record, but unfortunately destroyed in the ten years of catastrophe, it is regrettable and sad.

In 1954, the oil painting of the Great Patriotic War in the former Soviet Union broke through the closed "narrow door" of China, and the training class taught by Maksimov experts improved Chinese oil painting by a big step. From the choice of content themes, the discussion of forms and techniques have emerged. Although this kind of foreign aid still wants to continue, contradictions between China and the Soviet Union have arisen, and this aid has been interrupted. In its place was the "Oil Painting Research Class" with the revolutionary spirit of "self-reliance", which I attended.

When the "Cultural Revolution" came, I was criticized, and in the midst of grievances and indignation, I thought of a sentence in Lu Xun's translation of "The Narrow Cage", "The tiger is injured, licking its own wounds with its tongue", and also thought of a poem by Chairman Mao, "Xiongguan Mandao is really like iron, and now I step forward from the beginning." In the cowshed, I sketched the oil painting sketch of the revolutionary martyr Li Dazhao's "Iron Shoulders Bear Moral Righteousness, Clever Hands Write Articles", and I want to wash my wounds, restore my reputation, and defend myself as a patriotic painter.

At the end of the "Cultural Revolution", the teachers, students, and employees of the Academy of Fine Arts were all sent to the farms of the People's Liberation Army troops in Cixian County to work, picking dung, cutting wheat, driving, expanding blanks, doing everything, my stomach ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding also survived, and later transferred to the army to train art cadres for the People's Liberation Army, and finally transferred to the National Museum to paint history paintings.

Teaching was finally resumed, and the first studio taught oil painting, and at the same time painted a picture of "Selling Songs" which was collected by the National Art Museum of China.

In 1988, he was invited by the Paulista Gallery in São Paulo, Brazil, to hold a solo exhibition in Brazil, and he also met his big brother who had been away for 45 years. After all the vicissitudes, there are groups of children again. The following year, I went to Detroit, the United States, to participate in the graduation ceremony of my daughter Liang Hao's master of fine arts, and my American friends Sally and overseas Chinese Guo Weiquan and Guo Meihua received me very warmly and friendly, and I visited Paris, France for 10 days, broadening my horizons and increasing my knowledge. Looking back on the past days, a person who took art as a career was in such a closed environment for a long time, which was really pitiful.

August 3, 2005 was my saddest day, my dear wife Andy Cheung died of overwork, causing heart disease and ineffective rescue, at the age of 75. After five years of preparation, I published "People's Sculptor Zhang Dehua" and established a Dehua Memorial Hall, and these two major events were completed, which fulfilled my unfinished wish. Whenever I walk into the Dehua Memorial Hall and see her sculptures displayed everywhere, it is like Dehua smiling at me, and I feel relaxed and happy, and I relive my dreams.

In this album there are a series of paintings by foreign expert groups, I respect them, they have left their relatives and friends, crossed the ocean to Come to China, came to China when they were prosperous, handsome and mature, but now they are white-haired, old and old, some lying in hospitals, some in wheelchairs, some have left the human world forever, for the sake of China's revolution and construction, they have dedicated their life's energy and painstaking efforts to China, they are great internationalist fighters, let us always miss them.
