Li Keyan admired Qi Baishi and was unwilling to give up after a failure. After the end of the year, as soon as the spring began, he visited Qi Baishi again.

This time, he also brought twenty paintings of his own.

At that time, Mr. Qi Baishi was lying on a recliner at home with his eyes closed, and saw that Li Ke was dyed with paintings for him to "reference". Out of love for the young man, he took it in his hand and examined it.

For Qi Baishi, who is in his eighties, he is accustomed to seeing too many excellent paintings. So at first, when I appreciated it, I didn't pay too much attention.

He carefully studied the painting for a long time. Li Keyan's landscape paintings are freehand, but they are different from those styles of the past.

Qi Baishi appreciated Li Keyan and wanted to accept him as a disciple. It's just that he didn't wait for Li Ke to come to the door to worship the teacher.

He couldn't help but complain to Xu Beihong: "The Li Keyan you said wanted to worship with me, but now he worships or doesn't he worship?" ”

Xu Beihong couldn't laugh when he heard this, and hurried to ask Li Keyan why he had delayed the worship ceremony.

First, because the cow has a coat on its back, it does not look like a cow at first glance, but like a turtle. The second is that this cow, which is plowing the ground, actually "turned along".

Li Keyan wanted to prepare a grand worship ceremony to show his respect for old Mr. Qi Baishi.

After Qi Baishi learned the truth, the depression disappeared completely. Lian Sheng dissuaded: "You don't need to prepare anything, you don't have to spend money, I have money." ”

Li Ke saw this and no longer tangled. Accompanied by Qi Baishi's third son, Qi Ziru, he formally performed the disciple ceremony to Qi Baishi, and the name of the master and apprentice was thus determined.

Li Keyan learned a lot from Qi Baishi, although he did not say that "blue is better than blue", but there is something he is extremely good at.

For example, painting cattle, Li Keyan is better than Qi Baishi.

Qi Baishi once had a famous painting of cattle, and the outside world has always had mixed praise for this painting. The biggest controversy is nothing more than "similarity or dissimilarity".

The cow in the painting is plowing the ground, and because of the rain, the cow is covered with a coat on its back. From a distance, it is quite idyllic, but many people have pointed out two major awkwardnesses in the painting.

Clothing cattle in the rain is a common practice of cattle lovers in the south. So although it looks like a turtle, it can also be explained.

Just painting the cattle that work hard to cultivate the land as "turning" is obviously a common sense error.

The explanation given by the public is that Qi Baishi failed to grasp the charm of the cow, and even Qi Baishi himself often ridiculed himself: "I paint a turtle."

Therefore, in terms of painting cattle, the student Li Keyan has more experience than Qi Baishi. He loves to draw cows and is good at drawing cows.

Once, Li Keyan took dozens of paintings of cattle he had painted to Qi Baishi. After Qi Baishi looked at them one by one, he only felt that he liked the width.

One of the "Cattle Herding Pictures" won his favor the most.

"There are sparse willow branches on the painting, the body of the cow is written from thick ink blocks, and the back, horn, and eye of the cow are also outlined with thick ink lines. The penmanship is clumsy, but full of texture, full of fun, very interesting! ”

Li Keyan thought that Master was good at drawing shrimp and insect birds, thinking that he would draw one or two shrimps on the side of the pond, or a dragonfly or a small bird on the horn.

But after Qi Baishi "splashed ink and waved", the painting did not have the ones that Li Keyan had thought. Only in the upper right corner of the painting, there are 11 more big characters.

"Can be with words, can dye brother painting, little brother white stone" .

Li Keyan's original painting style is casual and idyllic, and even the drop in the upper left corner is flowing cursive. It is to make the paintings look flexible and ethereal, full of wild interest.

But qi baishi's eleven big characters are seal books, which occupy all the blank space in the upper right corner, not to mention, and are also very "bulky". This is completely incompatible with the style of the whole painting, and it seems very incongruous.

Loss and speechlessness are mixed, because purely from the aesthetic point of view of the painting, Qi Baishi's supplementary brush can be called a ruined painting!

Li Keyan was heartbroken by this, but he had no choice.

Qi Baishi took the disciple's emotions into his eyes, but he had some calculations in his heart. Although his words affect the overall harmony of the painting, they have other wonderful features.

First, there is the first line of the word "can be with words".

In Li Keyan's painting, two shepherd boys each ride a buffalo. One of the shepherd boys was holding a wooden stick with a rope tied to it and a small bird.

Another shepherd boy held a bird cage and teased the birds in the willow trees next to him. Seems to want it to throw itself into the birdcage.

And the two little birds looked at each other again, one pitiful and the other anxious.

Zi Yue: You can talk with words but not with them, and you lose people; you can't talk with words and words with words, and you can't talk with words. He who knows does not lose his word.

Li Kejian summed up the whole painting with a sentence of "can be with words": the shepherd boy and the bird, the bird and the bird can each "dialogue".

All of a sudden, it's fun! It's all between the three words of "can be and said".

The second and third lines of Qi Baishi are full of deep meaning.

Qi Baishi and Li Keyan were a solid master-apprentice relationship, and the difference between the two was forty-three years. In the painting, Qi Baishi called Li Ke dyeing "dyable brother" and called himself "little brother Baishi".

Such a title seems to be nothing, but in fact, Qi Baishi "descended from generation to generation", which is commensurate with the Li Keyan brothers. At once, he showed his admiration for Li Keyan and his appreciation for this painting.

With Qi Baishi's position in the painting world, he raised his brush, who is not clear about the value of this painting. After all, Qi Baishi's old man said good paintings, and others could still say bad things with their necks?

All in all, after a "text bonus" from Qi Baishi, the painting was not only not destroyed, but "doubled in value".

In 2011, Jiangsu Wanda International held an autumn auction. At the auction, Li Keyan's "Cattle Herding Map" was "scrambled" by buyers everywhere, and finally directly auctioned for a high price of 77 million.

It should be known that Li Keyan's life's works are numerous and praised. However, no other work can sell for more than this "Cattle Herding Map".

Of course, this is because Li Kejian's painting skills are excellent and his works are excellent. But it is undeniable that the "success" of this painting is inseparable from Qi Baishi's "supplementary pen" bonus.
