The art of Chinese pasta is not only delicious, but also particularly beautiful, and flower buns are one of the representatives. Today, we approach Yue Ruohui, the representative inheritor of xianyang noodle flowers in the Xianyang Intangible Cultural Heritage Project, and appreciate the folk treasures that bloom on the fingertips of the noodle flowers.

Turn ordinary ingredients into works of art

Delicious and good-looking, Xianyang municipal non-hereditary heirs took us into the art of flower buns!

Flower buns, also known as face flowers and ceremonial buns, are one of the representatives of the northern "noodle culture". Bright red peony flowers, small animals with different images... In front of you, these are all made of colorful dough, and in Yue Ruohui's skillful hands, the dough is no longer an ordinary ingredient, but a lifelike work of art.

On January 28, Yue Ruohui, the representative inheritor of Xianyang noodle flowers, said, "When I was a child, I saw my grandmother, and my grandmother made those flower buns, and I felt very good-looking, so I studied with them." In 2009, Xianyang City held a national flower bun exhibition in the stadium, I went and found it so beautiful, at that time I pulled three taxis to my room, every day I got up to see, and since then I have been out of control. ”

Pinching the flower bun is a more skillful process for women in Guanzhong, there is no teaching material, no pattern, all by generation of people to teach, after a lot of rubbing, twisting, rolling, cutting, pinching and other techniques, the ordinary flour is kneaded into a vivid imaginary look, Yue Ruohui from 2009 to 2018 in the middle of the country to visit and study.

Yue Ruohui said that he basically understands the flower buns in the country, "Our flower buns in Shaanxi Guanzhong are all arrogant, bright in color, beautiful in shape, giving people a kind of sudden enlightenment, this world is so beautiful." I also innovate on the basis of them, I think the flower bun is too beautiful, it is a cultural life to bring people a pleasant mood. ”

In Yue Ruohui's hands, after more than 100 processes such as rubbing, twisting, cutting, pressing, and rolling, ordinary dough is transformed into exquisite works of art. In the past 36 years of creating noodle flowers, Yue Ruohui has won numerous awards, and in 2019, she was nominated for the Shaanxi Shanhua Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award.

Through years of exploration and learning, Yue Ruohui has formed her own noodle flower making style. "I think life should be positive and colorful, so I like to design large, colorful flower works." Her face flower works have been collected by the People's Government of Four Seasons Town, Langao County and the Shaanxi Cultural Center.

Set up a studio dedicated to promoting traditional culture

Nowadays, Yue Ruohui has set up her own noodle flower studio, and she also brings her beloved flower bun into the campus and into the community, so that more people can understand the noodle flower and understand the traditional Chinese culture.

For her, the production process of noodle flowers is very complicated, requiring a day in advance to prepare the noodles and paints, to have a board, scissors, rolling pins, combs, colored pens, etc., the whole process not only has high requirements for the producer's eyesight and hand kung fu, but also a test of the producer's endurance and perseverance. Yue Ruohui integrated her observation of life into the noodle flowers, a small piece of dough, through her skillful hands, into "flower cake", "peacock blossomping", "spring", "peony flower" and other vivid noodle flower works.

Referring to the future development, Yue Ruohui said: "I am full of yearning and hope for the future, and I hope that this matter of face flowers will be passed on and the intangible cultural heritage of our motherland will be promoted to the whole country and the world." ”
