Intel counterattacked the PC market, and AMD divided the server market

Technology media "Wccftech" reported that investment bank KeyBanc announced the latest research report, the new generation of processors Alder Lake series lineup is complete, powerful, so that Intel (Intel) in the PC processor market to regain AMD snatched up considerable market share, but also share server market statistics, AMD may soon see EPYC server processor double-digit growth.

In the third quarter of 2021, Intel mobile processor products accounted for 77.8% of the total market, AMD had a market share of 22.2%, and both companies' mobile processor shipments fell 6% from the previous quarter. Shipments declined as both processor manufacturers prepared next-generation products for the quarter and gradually began delivering to notebook foundry's latest processors, the Intel Alder Lake series and AMD Ryzen 6000 series. Entering 2022, both companies can supply more products, especially in the second half of the year, which will gradually ease the shortage of chips.

As the two processor vendors compete for the new processor market, Intel is meeting its targets with a new generation of processors, thanks to the Alder Lake series of processors with up to 50% performance improvement over the previous generation, and the price increase of only 10% compared to the Tiger Lake series, PC brands prefer Intel processors to AMD Ryzen 6000 series processors. This allows Intel to regain the part that was snatched up by AMD. Compared with the past, Intel's market share in 2022 will reach 85%, and AMD will return 15% of the market share.

Intel counterattacked the PC market, and AMD divided the server market

Although Intel has gained a large share of the PC market with the Alder Lake family of processors, the server market is completely different. Intel Xeon's next-generation server processor, Sapphire Rapids-SP, is not expected to be released until the end of the third quarter of 2022, and the fourth quarter will allow AMD EPYC server processors to compete for market share. The AMD EPYC server processor Milan-X series is available, and the new Genoa series will be available in the fourth quarter of 2022. The report estimates that AMD's server processor market share will exceed 20% this year, especially before the end of the year.
