Nanfang Daily News (Reporter/Guan Yuqing) On January 27, the exhibition "Tracing Yangcheng - New Archaeological Discoveries in Guangzhou in 2021" sponsored by the Guangzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, the Erling Museum of the Southern Han Dynasty, and the Cultural Heritage Protection and Management Research Center of the Maritime Silk Road (Guangzhou) was officially launched at the Erling Museum of the Southern Han Dynasty.

Guangzhou Archaeology's 2021 "report card" was outstanding, with a total of 240 archaeological projects, 120 million square meters of surveys, 2.22 million square meters of exploration, 13931 square meters of excavations, and 1897 pieces/sets of excavated cultural relics. This exhibition focuses on the new archaeological discoveries and achievements in Guangzhou in 2021.

This exhibition focuses on 10 important archaeological projects, such as the ruins of Zengcheng Jinlan Temple, the ruins of Huangpu Pitouling (Phase II), the ruins of Huangpu Lanyuanling (Phase II), the relics of Liuheng Road han to Qing Dynasty on Yuexiu Nonglin Road, the tombs of the Southern Dynasty to the late Tang Dynasty, the Ming and Qing tombs of Haizhu Guangzhou Science Museum project site, the Ming to Republic of China tombs of Panyu Yongda Group No. 1 plot, the remains of Han to the Republic of China, and the Conghua Songgang site, with a total of 201 pieces/sets of excavated cultural relics such as stone tools, pottery, jade, and silverware.

Through the pictures of the site, the video records of the exploration site and the selected cultural relics, the exhibition further reconstructs the historical picture of the development of human society in the Pearl River Delta and the exchange and interaction with neighboring areas in the pre-Qin period, leading the audience to approach the archaeological site and explore the memory of Guangzhou.

All artifacts in this exhibition are on public display for the first time. The exhibition not only displays newly discovered relics and relics, but also pays attention to documentary archaeological display, fully demonstrates the archaeological work process and restores archaeological sites as real as possible, and highlights the achievements of multidisciplinary cooperation, including paleoenvironmental archaeology, animal archaeology, plant archaeology, physical anthropology and other multidisciplinary research results.

In 2021, in order to celebrate the centenary of modern Chinese archaeology, the Guangzhou Cultural Museum system organized the selection activity of "Guangzhou Archaeology 100 Cultural Relics and Top Ten Important Archaeological Discoveries". The ruins of Zengcheng Jinlan Temple and the ruins of Pitouling in Huangpu have been selected as "Top Ten Important Archaeological Discoveries in Guangzhou"; the M100 tomb of the Lanyuanling Ruins (Phase II) in Huangpu District has a collared jade ring from the Western Zhou Dynasty, which has been selected as "Guangzhou Archaeological Hundred Cultural Relics", and is currently being exhibited in the exhibition.

Yi Xibing, president of the Guangzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, introduced that the "Tracing Yangcheng" series of archaeological achievements exhibition is an important measure for the Guangzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology to strengthen the display and utilization of archaeological excavated cultural relics. Guangzhou archaeologists have always taken "protecting Guangzhou's cultural heritage, inheriting the historical memory of Yangcheng, and serving the people's beautiful life" as the original mission of the profession, and strive to help the public understand Guangzhou with rich archaeological discoveries, guide the public to love Guangzhou with vivid archaeological stories, dedicate Guangzhou with excellent cultural relics and archaeological work, and help Guangzhou realize the new vitality of the old city and the comprehensive strength of urban culture.
