Tesla released an Autopilot update to enhance the use of feedback brakes

According to Electronek, Tesla has pushed for a new software update that will enable Autopilot to better use regenerative braking.

With the intelligent use of feedback braking, the efficiency of the electric powertrain will further open up the gap with the internal combustion engine. Automakers have adopted this technique to control the strength of the feedback braking in many different ways, which includes recovering energy to recharge the battery as the vehicle slows down.

Tesla is known to have one of the most aggressive feedback braking systems, but it has the lowest level of customization. The automaker previously had only two options — standard and low — but it eliminated both options in 2020, using only standard as the default.

It may take a while for new EV drivers to adapt to the stronger feedback braking capability, which can even enable single-pedal driving, as sometimes the car will quickly come to a complete stop as soon as the throttle is released. Now Tesla has begun to release a new software update (2022.4) that improves this balance, using more feedback braking at low speeds.
