On January 25, US time, Toyota released a new Toyota Sequoia, which is also another major revision of Sequoia since 2008. The new car as a whole continues the latest design language of Toyota's American SUV, which has a different charm compared to the new Land Cruiser.
The biggest change to the new Sequoia is the adoption of the same new architecture as the new Land Cruiser and Lexus LX and the replacement with a new powertrain. The difference is that the power system of the new car, although the displacement is smaller, is even stronger than the power system of the LC300 in terms of data.
Because it is equipped with a 3.5L V6 twin-turbo engine that adds an electric motor between the engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission, it forms a hybrid system with a maximum power of 318 kW and a peak torque of 790 N·m.
Although Toyota has not yet announced the specific fuel consumption value, there should be no small surprise with reference to the fuel consumption performance of Toyota hybrid models. Correspondingly, the drag quality of the new Sequoia has reached 4100kg, which is 20% higher than that of the previous generation model, and the efficiency ratio is higher. To improve trailer safety and convenience, Toyota also offers trailer technology packages for all classes of vehicles as an option.
The new Sequoia is available in SR5, Limited, Platinum and Capstone, as well as TRD Pro. Among them, the TRD Pro model adopts a more rugged appearance, and the front design and details are very similar to the recently released Tantu TRD Pro. In addition, sequoia TRD Pro models also have a time-sharing 4WD system and a transfer case, which can be switched between 2WD, high-speed 4WD or low-speed 4WD.
In terms of configuration, the off-road TRD Pro models offer steering wheel heating, FOX bypass shock absorption, aluminum front skid plate, rear differential lock, multi-terrain selection system, creep system, and steep slope mitigation. Exterior features include the TRD luggage rack, "TOYOTA" letter grille, TRD Pro rims, tail throat, and more.
The more luxurious Capstone models offer 22-inch rims, perforated leather seats, walnut trims, and more.
Among other models, the SR5 model offers a TRD sport kit, including a 20-inch matt black TRD rim, Bilstein single-tube shock absorber, and more. The TRD off-road kit offers creep mode with the addition of an optional rear differential lock.
The new Sequoia rack-type electronic power steering system enhances the steering feel, and the rear suspension is multi-link with air suspension and AVS adaptive suspension. The new car offers eco, normal and sport driving modes, when the vehicle starts, the electric motor intervenes to drive the vehicle, and when the speed reaches more than 29km/h, the gasoline engine will intervene and use it as the main driving method. In trailer mode, the hybrid system will operate in series to provide sufficient power support.
In terms of safety configuration, the new Sequoia series is equipped with Toyota TSS 2.5 active safety system as standard, compared with the previous generation of TSS, the 2.5 version of the system increases pedestrian and cycling detection under low illumination, in addition to front collision warning, lane departure, blind spot detection and other functions.
In terms of interior design, the new sequoia also basically follows the new smooth road style, a 14-inch suspension central control screen is particularly conspicuous (low-end models are 8 inches), and many physical buttons are retained below, effectively improving driving safety. The top model also features a black-and-white interior.
All Sequoia models are in a three-row layout, and depending on the level, the second row of seats is also different, and the third row of seats can be moved forward and backward by 152mm.
At present, the LC300 in the Japanese market needs to wait for 4 years, and Sequoia after the addition of the TRD Pro model, the off-road ability is also in line with the land patrol, ready to start with the new land patrol and do not want to wait for friends, may wish to consider the new sequoia. It is reported that the new car will be launched this summer, but Toyota has not yet announced the price of the new Sequoia.
