【Introduction】January 25 News, Samsung Electronics has been facing lawsuits from European patent trolls. Less than two months after being sued by a former Samsung patent executive, South Korea's largest company was again sued by the "patent troll" parent company.

Dublin-based company Scramoge Technology filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Jan. 10. Scramoge Technology claims that Samsung Electronics has launched a new product using its wireless charging technology without permission.

Scramoge Technology purchased 123 patents related to wireless charging from LG Innotek a year ago. The Irish patent company reportedly bought LG Innotek's patent for a low price of 5 billion won (26.4 million yuan).

Scramoge Technology used a patent obtained from LG Innotek to sue Samsung Electronics twice in April 2021 and August 2021. Among them, Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 are listed as patent infringement products in the lawsuit.

Scramoge Technology said Samsung infringed on seven of their wireless charging patents, including a short-range communication antenna solution. It also filed a damage claim, alleging that Samsung Electronics caused damage to it by selling patented products in the United States.

Industry watchers say Samsung will have an uphill legal battle with Scramoge Technology because its parent company is the well-known patent agency Atlantic IP Services. It has subsidiaries of Solas OLED and Neodron, which have filed patent lawsuits against South Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, LG Electronics and LG Display.
