Regarding the new plant, the Zhunan plant is closed for mass production this year, and TSMC decided in November last year to set up a new plant at the Nanzi Oil Refinery in Kaohsiung to produce 12-inch fabs with 7nm and 28nm processes, and construction is expected to start in 2022 and mass production in 2024.

Taichung Zhongke has also repeatedly spread the news of TSMC's expansion of the plant, including the expansion of the old factory in The big belly passed last year, and the Taichung Golf Course in Daya is also rumored to be the new base of the 2-nanometer plant.

At present, TSMC intends to set up an "advanced packaging plant" in the Yunjia area to cope with the rapid growth of demand for 5/3/2 nanometer chip manufacturing, and quickly revise its production roadmap, of which Chiayi County has the highest probability of coming out of the line.

The industry believes that TSMC itself has five fully automatic advanced packaging plants, of which Zhunan AP6 plant aims to mass production at the end of this year, if the company intends to add advanced packaging plants in other regions, with advanced process expansion and balance considerations, it will choose the area adjacent to Nanke or Zhongke, especially Chiayi is relatively convenient for Nanke.

For the relevant rumors, Chiayi County Governor Weng Zhangliang said earlier through Facebook that he warmly welcomed on behalf of the Chiayi people.

TSMC has not yet announced new plans to expand its advanced packaging plant, but the company has planned a steady increase in advanced packaging capacity, and its advanced packaging plants are all fully automated factories.

TSMC's Advanced Package 3D fabric platform integrates all advanced packaging technologies to give customers the freedom to choose from, with front-end technology including Integrated System-on-Chip (SoIC) and post-stage assembly testing related technologies including Integrated Fan-Out (InFO) and CoWoS family of technologies.

As the market demand is expected to continue to grow, TSMC's advanced packaging production capacity has steadily increased, and five factories including Hsinchu AP1 Factory, Tainan AP2B and AP2C Plant, Longtan AP3 Factory, Taichung AP5 Factory, and Zhunan AP6 Factory are under construction. Among them, the AP6 plant is also fully automated design, will specialize in SoIC related design, will be mass production at the end of 2022.

According to the development of TSMC's advanced process with advanced packaging, TSMC includes more complex chip stacking on the soIC part, and according to the plan, the advanced packaging capacity required for the 3rd quarter of 2022 with 5 nanometers will also be matched.
