Chen Weiming graduated from the School of Chinese Painting of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with a master's degree in 2009, and was a visiting scholar of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2018-2019, and held a solo exhibition "Standing on the Clouds" in Beijing in 2019.

Nandu: The most eye-catching thing about this exhibition is the writing of a number of daily objects, which are all painted by Xin Ugly Autumn, and I am curious about the circumstances under which you created these paintings at that time? These paintings seem to have the taste of detracting current affairs, is it your temporary work or the direction of your future creation?
Chen Weiming: Personally, painting is a hobby that I have been adhering to since I was a child, after graduating from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, I stayed on as a professional teacher at the Chinese Academy of Painting, from hobby to profession, painting occupies most of my life.
Xin ugly autumn, when I had a few weeks without scheduling classes, you can let me send, just When Brother Wang Yongcai of the Foshan Academy of Painting said that he wanted to organize a group exhibition of "cases", each creative staff handed over two works to show the objects in their studio or living space, I drew scissors "cutting continuously, rationalizing and messing", fruit knives "sharp tools", feeling very interesting, and successively drew twenty or so sheets, all of which were one or two square feet of size strip screens, framed into the form of hanging shafts.
In this batch of works, the "inner volume", "lying flat", "who fights with the front", "good things come in pairs", "baiyi baishun"... Taking the tape measures, combs, paper knives, slippers, and hangers commonly found in daily necessities as the depiction objects, borrowing popular words and life sayings from the Internet on the topic, and thus and the other, metaphorically helpless in reality, ask for a laugh! Nandu: You say you're "a countryman who prefers to be more casual, spontaneous, with playful states and accidents", why?
Chen Weiming: Before coming to Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts to study at the Attached Middle School (High School), I had been living in the countryside of Puning, Guangdong. At that time, the blue sky and white clouds, the clear stream, no cram schools, and a week of agricultural leave every semester, the memory was all kinds of mischievous mischief and play, such as digging bird nests, catching frogs, kiln potatoes, building bamboo rafts, netting fish... Playing small idleness may have also affected my view of art. Since I was a child, I have liked the carelessness and casualness of Chinese freehand painting, and I can't take it step by step and work hard; for painting, the pencil rational deliberation of three drafts and five drafts has never been able to adapt.
I generally don't have a draft when I paint, I pick up a pen, scribble directly, adapt to changes, and generate hair layer by layer. I was fascinated by the way the brush touched the paper and walked straight, the instantaneous divergence of thinking, the affirmation of the moment, and the intuitive image of the wrong, the control and uncontrollability of the ink and the fusion of color and ink.
Nandu: This time, there are also some demonstration texts of point scene characters, you are teaching at the Chinese Painting School of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, how do you think it is more effective to teach Chinese painting?
Chen Weiming: Pan Tianshou, Li Keyan, Li Xiongcai, Guan Shanyue... In the teaching of Chinese painting, the predecessors have accumulated many effective textbooks and methods, which are all models for us to learn today. Teaching is implemented in two aspects: the teacher's "teaching" and the student's "learning". My role is to try to be a guide or guide to the reader, to help students understand the thinking and practice of the previous masters.
