On January 19-20, Professor Zhang Xiansheng, director of the State Key Laboratory of Crop Biology and president of Shandong Agricultural University, and his party went to the Institute of Modern Agriculture of Peking University for academic exchanges, Professor Zhang Xiansheng made a wonderful academic report for the staff of the college in the academic lecture hall, and Dean Deng Xingwang presided over the report meeting.
Professor Zhang Xiansheng focused on the theme of "Plant Stem Cells and the Molecular Basis of Regeneration", and introduced in depth that plant stem cells are a group of primitive cells with self-renewal ability and can continuously produce various differentiated cells, and are the cell source of various tissues and organs of plants. Plant stem cell research is not only the core research proposition of plant developmental biology, but also an important foundation for the genetic improvement of crop molecules and the industrialization of plant biotechnology. Plant stem cells are mainly located in the meristem and formation layers at the tip of the root and stem, maintaining their pluripotent state throughout the plant's life cycle and controlling the growth and development of the plant. Studies of plant stem cells have shown that the interaction between key transcription factors and plant hormones together regulates the formation, maintenance and differentiation of rhizome and stem tip stem cells.
The report is rich in content, which not only combines basic theoretical research, but also goes deep into the actual production of the industry, expands scientific research ideas, achieves very good exchange results, and lays a solid foundation for future in-depth scientific research cooperation.

Professor, doctoral supervisor and president of Shandong Agricultural University, director of the State Key Laboratory of Crop Biology. He received a bachelor's degree in agronomy from Shandong Agricultural University in 1982, a master's degree in plant physiology from Shandong Agricultural University in 1988, a visiting scholar in the Department of Botany at the University of California, Davis in 1990, a doctorate in plant physiology from China Agricultural University in 1997, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Shandong Agricultural University in December 1999, and a young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions in Shandong Province in 2005 In 2007, he was hired by the Ministry of Science and Technology as the chief scientist of the National Major Science Program Project; in 2008, he was hired by the Ministry of Agriculture as the host of the national major project on the cultivation of new genetically modified varieties; in November 2016, he became the president of Shandong Agricultural University; and in 2018, he served as a representative of the 13th National People's Congress.
