Mr. Ia has repeatedly made radical remarks to denigrate Hong Kong's judicial system while concealing his British political background, reducing the Bar Association to a politicized group. After being elected on the 20th, Du Gankun told the media that the Barristers' Association is a professional group and should not handle and discuss political matters, and as for some incidents in which the rule of law and politics overlap, it is necessary to balance it well. He expressed confidence that in the coming days, there will be channels to communicate closely with the SAR Government and the Central Government, which is also in the interests of members and the Hong Kong community. The Hkiesheet will also assist members in developing their work in the Mainland and Hong Kong and seizing opportunities.

The 45-year-old, who specializes in commercial and civil litigation, qualified as a barrister in Hong Kong in 1999 after graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he practised mainly in civil law. In July 2020, the Financial Secretary, Paul Chan, appointed Du Gankun as a non-executive director of the SFC under the authority delegated by the Chief Executive.
