Sichuan provincial procuratorates prosecuted 2,680 people for crimes against minors in 2021

Chengdu, 19 Jan (China News Service) -- On 19 January, at the fifth session of the 13th Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, Feng Jian, chief procurator of the Sichuan Provincial People's Procuratorate, made a report to the meeting. The reporter learned that in 2021, the procuratorial organs of Sichuan Province handled a total of 227,900 cases of various types, an increase of 21.9% year-on-year. Among them, 2,680 people were prosecuted for crimes against minors.

It is understood that the procuratorial organs of Sichuan Province have been carrying out "special actions to combat crimes against minors" in the province for two consecutive years. In 2021, the two chiefs of the Sichuan Provincial Procuratorate and Law performed their duties in the same court, handled a serious violent sexual assault of left-behind girls in accordance with the law, and changed the death sentence for rape to death and immediately executed, which greatly deterred the crime of sexual abuse of minors.

In addition, the procuratorial organs of Sichuan Province have taken the lead in carrying out family education guidance work in the whole country, and urging guardians to perform their family education duties. Jointly with the Sichuan Provincial Public Security Department and the Department of Education, 1.176 million teachers and staff and other practitioners were interviewed for access, and relevant departments were urged to dismiss or dismiss 101 people with criminal records in accordance with law.

According to the report, in 2021, the increase in the number of procuratorial organs prosecuting sexual abuse of minors in Sichuan Province was 15 percentage points lower than that in 2020, and the upward momentum of sexual abuse of minors in the province for four consecutive years was effectively curbed.

The report said that in 2022, the procuratorial organs of Sichuan Province will continue to carry out the "special action to combat crimes against minors", focus on promoting the "rule of law into the campus" in rural areas, promote the further implementation of the mandatory reporting system and the entry inquiry system, and strive to make the campus safer, the parents more at ease, and the society more peaceful.

In terms of promoting the anti-corruption struggle, the report shows that in 2021, the procuratorial organs of Sichuan Province accepted 1,095 cases of job-related crimes transferred by the third-level Supervision Commission, prosecuted 992 people, intervened in 36 cases of former provincial management cadres in advance, and prosecuted a number of major bribery cases such as the bribery case of Song Liang, former executive vice governor of Gansu Province, in accordance with the law.
