According to ancient records, the name Youzhou has a long history, at least in the early Zhou Dynasty.

Anshi Rebellion

At first, Youzhou Jiedushi was responsible for defending against foreign invasions by Xi and Khitans, and initially had jurisdiction over 9 prefectures, including Youzhou, Jizhou, Yizhou, Yanzhou, Tanzhou, Hengzhou, Dingzhou, Mozhou, and Cangzhou.
Three towns are thrifty
In the third year of Tianbao, that is, in 744 AD, An Lushan was appointed as the envoy of Fanyang Jiedushi (Youzhou Jiedushi), and at the same time concurrently served as an envoy to Hebei and a military envoy to Pinglu, and his power was temporarily tilted, and he divided one side and held the military and political power of Youzhou.
And what is even more fatal is that in 751, seven years later, An Lushan entered the palace and asked Tang Xuanzong for an envoy to Hedong Jiedu, and Tang Xuanzong granted him again.
That is, Fan Yang, Pinglu, and Hedong were all in one, and the territory was so large that at this point, An Lushan's power could be completely divided, and history proved that he did indeed do so.
In 755, An Lushan rebelled from Fanyang, that is, Youzhou, and the usurpation was called emperor, the state name was Great Yan, and the Anshi Rebellion began, and within 300 years, Youzhou became the base of the rebels.
Semi-independent dynasty
The Tang court did not have the strength to pursue the rebellious generals in the Anshi Rebellion, and at the same time, in order to win over the old department of Anshi in Hebei, Tian Chengsi was appointed as the envoy of Wei Bojiedu, Li Huaixian as the envoy of Youzhou Jiedushi, and Li Baochen as the envoy of Chengde Jiedushi, known in history as the "Three Towns of Heshuo".
At this point, the Tang Dynasty entered the situation of the division of the feudal towns.
The Pacification of the Anshi Rebellion was a compromise between the Tang Dynasty and the rebels, and after the Anshi Rebellion was settled, Youzhou became a semi-independent local institution.

The pain of the Great Song
