Although "Interpretation of the Three Kingdoms" is a literary novel, it is also supported by certain historical facts, such as Xu Shu, who is a real character in history. Xu Shu is recorded in detail in the Wei state history book Wei Luo, whose real name was Xu Fu (徐福) and whose ancestral home was Yingchuan (颍川, in present-day Yuzhou, Henan). It is worth mentioning that Xu Shu was a chivalrous guest when he was a teenager, and his biggest dream was also to "fight the sword and go to the end of the world". In the sixth year of Zhongping (189), Xu Shu was entrusted to avenge him, and as a result, he was captured by the government when he fled, and later thanks to his friend Shi Tao and others secretly rescued, Xu Shu would have been executed by the government long ago. After Xu Shu was rescued, he was painfully determined, and from then on he stopped practicing martial arts and chose the opposite path - reading and studying.
Xu Shu was talented and intelligent, and soon learned a lot, and his talent spread in the circle. During the early Ping Dynasty, Dong Zhuo rebelled, and Xu Shu went to Jingzhou with his friends to escape the war, where he also became acquainted with Zhuge Liang, and the two had a close relationship. During the Jian'an period, Xu Shu learned that Liu Bei was stationed in Xinye and went to defect, so he became a strategist under Liu Bei's account... Later, Xu Shu recommended Zhuge Liang to Liu Bei...
At this point, many readers of the later history are very familiar with it, but what xiaobian wants to say is, why did Xu Shu recommend Zhuge Liang? According to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the reason is that Cao Cao captured Xu Shu's mother in order to blackmail Xu Shu into surrendering to Cao Cao. In fact, this is really not an easy question to answer. According to the Wei Liu, in the thirteenth year of Jian'an (208), Cao Cao led a large army to the south, xu Shu fled with his family and Liu Bei, but during the escape, Xu Shu's family was stopped by Cao Jun, so Cao Cao wrote to Xu Shu to ask him to come to Cao Camp to see his mother.
It can be seen that Xu Shu surrendered to Cao Cao in order to save his mother, but his foolish filial piety was a defect in his character, so Xu Shu had to leave Liu Bei, and at the same time, he recommended his friend Zhuge Liang for Liu Bei to support the Han room. As we all know, Xu Shu did not say a word after arriving at Cao Ying, so he has not been reused by Cao Cao, which shows that Cao Cao wanted Xu Shu not for his talents, but did not want him to be used by Liu Bei. Since then, Xu Shu has never been mentioned in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, so people are curious about what happened to Xu Shu later.
It is recorded in the Wei Luo that Xu Shu later served as a royal historian in the State of Wei, and finally died of illness in Pengcheng (Xuzhou, Jiangsu). It can be seen that Xu Shu was not killed by Cao Cao, and we can infer that perhaps Cao Cao put him under house arrest until Cao Cao died of illness and cao Pi established the state of Wei before he regained his freedom and was reused by Cao Pi. However, at this time, Xu Shu was already old, and he missed the prosperous world (the chaotic world of the Three Kingdoms) that could exert his talents for him, and even he was like an old man who traveled through time and space, and he was helpless in the face of peace after the chaotic world, and he did not know what to do.
Nowadays, when we read Xu Shu again, we also feel sad for him, originally he could become the second "Wolong", but in the end he became obscure, and the reason for this may be only one word - filial piety. Everything Xu Shu did was to save his mother, which also reflected that Xu Shu was a big filial piety without compromise, which was completely reasonable in the ancient society where filial piety was the first, but at the moment it may be a bit "foolish filial piety". Xu Shu's rescue of his mother is beyond reproach, but in fact, he can take care of everything, and while saving his mother, he must also exert his talents, rather than choosing not to say a word for Liu Bei, so he also has some "foolish loyalty". All in all, Xu Shu practiced the word loyalty and filial piety, but he did it a little too much, which led to the bleakness of his life.
Xu Shu died of illness and was buried in Pengcheng, and his descendants did not have much record in the historical records, so his descendants also sank in the tide of history, finding no trace of it. Nowadays, no one will claim to be Xu Shu's descendant, and even if some people are really Xu Shu's descendants, maybe even he doesn't know it. It is worth mentioning that in today's Nanzhang County, Hubei Province, there is also a Xushu Temple built during the Qing Dynasty, which has been preserved as a whole, and if XushuQuan knows about it, it may also be gratifying.
