- The words that open the column

In 2021, "Notes on oracle bones of Ma Zhitu Southwest United University" was published. This is the 107-year-old Ma Zhitu's recollection of his experience of studying Oracle at Southwest United University, and it is also a vivid and vivid oracle bone popular reading.

Ma Zhitu began to publish literary works in 1935, and joined the Chinese Writers Association in 1961, and wrote a lot of works, such as "Qingjiang Zhuangge", "Ten Records of Night Tan", "Underground", "Looking for the Red Army" and so on. In 2008, the "Thief Official" in his work "Ten Tales of night tan" was made into the movie "Let the Bullets Fly", which was a shock.

All my friends who know me well say that I am a revolutionary, a writer and a calligrapher. To say that I am a revolutionary, I recognize that I have contributed a little to the birth and death of the revolution. To say that I am a writer, I admit only half of it, and that I have written several books for the revolution, but I can only say that I am an amateur writer. As for me as a calligrapher, it is probably because the China Writers Association and the Sichuan Provincial Writers Association have held several calligraphy exhibitions for me, and the proceeds from 3 of them have been donated to support the students of the Cold Gate.

Few friends know that I studied and studied Oracle at national Southwest United University (composed of Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University during the War of Resistance Against Japan, later referred to as Southwest United University).

In the winter of 1935, Beijing students launched the 12.9 Salvation Movement, and the whole country responded, and I also participated in Shanghai. In 1937, when the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out in full swing, I joined the Communist Party of China in Wuhan after graduating from the party training class of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Comrade Qian Ying, director of the Organization Department of the Provincial Party Committee, was appointed as the introducer. I changed my name "Ma Qianmu" to "Ma Zhitu" and became a professional revolutionary ever since.

In early 1941, due to traitors' whistle-blowing, Kuomintang agents arrested He Gongwei, secretary of the Cpc's Essi Special Committee, and his wife, Liu Huixin, minister of women's affairs of the special committee, and both died shortly after, and my daughter's whereabouts are unknown. I was spared because I was lucky enough to go out to work, and sneaked to Chongqing to report to the Southern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and the organization agreed to let me apply for the Southwest United Congress.

After I was admitted to the Department of Literature of the Chinese of Foreign Affairs of Southwest United University, I transferred to the Department of Chinese Literature. According to the "three diligent principles" put forward by our party, "diligent study, diligent study, and making friends," I served on the one hand as secretary of the southwest United University branch of the CPC; on the other hand, I studied diligently and diligently. After graduating from university with a bachelor's degree four years later, he was about to continue his studies, but he was ordered by the Southern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee to leave Kunming.

I burned all my notes, died nine times, and fought until 1949. After the founding of New China, he was ordered to engage in politics, and held leading positions in large and small units of the party and government groups, and he did not dare to do anything else, so he was isolated from Oracle.

After retiring, I began to write "Oracle Memories" in addition to literary creation. After the completion of the "Continuation of the Night Tan" in 2017, he devoted himself to the study of ancient characters and wrote this oracle bone note. I wanted to try to supplement some of Professor Tang Lan's independent views, but I failed to achieve them, and I basically did not get rid of the notes taken in the Oracle bone class of the Southwest United University that year, so I did not dare to show them in the book.

In November 2019, the symposium on the 120th anniversary of the discovery of Oracle was held in Beijing, and General Secretary Xi Jinping sent a letter of commendation. Some scholars have put forward the idea of "popular science oracle", that is, the carrier of promoting the inheritance of Chinese civilization among primary and secondary school students and college students on the mainland - oracle bone. As a student who had achieved a small success under many masters of Southwest United University and then abandoned his studies for decades, I was so excited and whimed by this information that I began to re-read Oracle.

This time re-reading the oracle bone, I will take the oracle bone as Professor Tang Lan often said to be "man-centered", such as man and nature, man and family... Classify, select some of the words in the oracle bone that I have read, and write them one by one according to simplified, traditional, oracle, pinyin, "Shuowen Jiezi", Tang's new solution, etc., and strive to be easy to recognize and understand.

I was ambitious, but I was not talented enough, and I was too old to realize the "Popular Science Oracle" project that I longed for, but I was not willing. I stumbled upon a few pages of the oracle bone list (left behind by Mr. Wen Yiduo), which presented the origin of Chinese characters very concisely in a scientific way. So I wrote out the ancient characters such as oracle bone and other selected Chinese characters, and wrote them out for later scholars to read.

The Oracle notes that have been refrigerated for many years are finally coming out, which may be regarded as a belated assignment for the teachings of the masters of the Southwest United University 80 years ago.
