When we think of Michael Jordan, we can always think of a series of titles, such as "the hero of artificial intelligence", "the originator of machine learning", "academician of the American Academy of Sciences", "the most influential computer scientist in the world" and so on.
In terms of achievements, he does deserve these titles. He has pointed out the connection between machine learning and statistics, which has promoted the widespread recognition of the importance of Bayesian networks in the machine learning community, and has also popularized the formalization and maximum expectation algorithms of approximate inference variational methods in machine learning.
Currently, Michael Jordan is a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, he holds many positions as an Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), ASA, CSS, IEEE, IMS, Bayesian Society for Analysis (ISBA), Fellow of the American Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), Distinguished Professor of UC Berkeley, member of the Academic Committee of the Ali Damo Academy, and has received the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) Research Excellence Award, the David E. Rumelhart Award, and the ACM/AAAI Allen The Newell Prize, the Greenard Prize for Stochastic Theory and Modeling, and many others.
In the new year, the top scholar made an important decision: to join MBZUAI as an honorary professor.
The full name of MBZUAI is Muhammad Ahmed. Ben · Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence is a graduate-only research university focused on digital technologies in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), computer science and industry. The school's principal, Eric Xing, is a student of Michael Jordan.
In addition to being an honorary professor, Michael Jordan will serve as honorary director of a new Laureate Faculty Program at MBZUAI. It is reported that the project was proposed by Professor Xing Bo to recognize the world's leading artificial intelligence researchers who have held teaching positions in the university and have unique and influential contributions. Xing Bo said the project aims to be "a unique place for cutting-edge researchers to delve into the field, build research teams and groups, and engage in close scientific exchanges without having to worry about the burden of management and the lack of funding, computing infrastructure and data."
Jordan joined and became the first Honorary Director of the Honorary Teacher Program at a critical stage in the school's development. In this regard, Professor Xing Bo said, "As a globally renowned scholar and leader in AI and machine learning, Professor Jordan is the ideal person to lead our new Honorary Teacher Program. With this appointment, we hope to be able to make the greatest contribution to all of our students, our institutional partners and the UAE as a country."
From the establishment of the school in 2019 to the joining of Professor Eric Xing in 2021, MBZUAI has been working quietly. In just two years, the university has attracted 30 bull guides and 54 researchers from CMU, Georgia Tech, Oxford, Nanyang Polytechnic and other well-known universities and research institutions in the field of artificial intelligence, recruited 135 outstanding students from all over the world, and actively included Carnegie Mellon University, UC Berkeley, Oxford University, Weizmann Institute of Science And other world-renowned universities and UAE domestic and international industrial leaders to establish strategic cooperative relations, in order to better serve the exchange of talents and scientific research exchanges.
