On January 19, the Berlin Film Festival officially announced that the film "Hidden in the Dust" directed by young Chinese director Li Ruijun and starring Haiqing and Wu Renlin was shortlisted for the main competition unit of the 72nd Berlin Film Festival, which shot the first shot for Chinese filmmakers to go to the international stage in 2022. It is understood that this year's Berlin International Film Festival will be held from February 10 to February 20.
Starring HaiQing, "Hidden in the Dust" tells the story of two lonely individuals abandoned by their respective families in the northwest countryside, who are mixed with each other in the day-to-day cultivation. Wu Renlin and Haiqing show the journey of a peasant couple from strange to familiar, from acquaintance to mutual companionship.
It is worth mentioning that public information shows that the 39-year-old director, screenwriter and producer Li Ruijun was born in Gansu Gaotai. Most of his works are related to the background of his hometown, and the realist style is strong.
In 2007, he independently directed his first film "Summer Solstice", which won the Special Award for Best Picture at the 9th International Independent Filmmakers Film Festival in Greece and was shortlisted for the 37th Rotterdam International Film Festival. In 2012, he won the 5th China Film Directors Association Annual Young Director for his country film "Tell Them, I Took the White Crane". In 2014, he directed the parent-child public welfare film "One Day" and won the Best Public Welfare Film Award at the 6th Macao International Film Festival. In 2017, the self-written and self-directed feature film "Passing the Future" was shortlisted for the "One Kind of Attention" section of the 70th Cannes International Film Festival. In 2021, he served as a judge for the 5th Pingyao International Film Festival "Pingyao Corner".
Shortlisted for the main competition unit of the Berlin Film Festival, director Li Ruijun will bring "Hidden in the Dust" and 17 excellent films that were also shortlisted to compete for the "Golden Bear".
It is reported that the film "Hidden in the Dust" will meet with mainland audiences on February 25.
