The author I first knew about Fan Zhongyan as a person, I knew him from a comic strip with the theme of ancient people's diligence when I was very young.
In this comic strip, there are some very extreme stories such as "chiseling the wall to steal the light", "hanging beam thorn stock" and so on, and the one that impressed me the most was Fan Zhongyan's story - "Cutting porridge".
Fan Zhongyan's childhood was very tragic, he lost his father at an early age, and his mother dragged this young child to no avail. Fortunately, Fan Zhongyan's mother waited until happiness came, and soon after, she remarried to a wealthy Zhu family. The other party not only accepted her, but also accepted the child born to her and her ex-husband without any hesitation, and the only requirement was that the child should change her surname to Zhu and be raised as the blood of the Zhu family in the future.
So this Fan family child, who was still in ignorance, began to be reborn under the name of Zhu Shuo, and this new family looked very harmonious, and everything looked like it was going to become beautiful!
However, Fan Zhongyun, who grew up in such an environment, actually had a great dissatisfaction with this family - that is, can life not be so rich?!
I don't know what the reason is, the young Fan Zhongyan has long identified the truth of "born in sorrow, died in comfort". He firmly believes that a rich and comfortable life will consume people's will, and there is only one solution, that is, self-inflicted suffering.
Therefore, Fan Zhongyan chose to go to the mountain temple to board and study, and deliberately used the living standards of the ascetic monks to sharpen himself. His daily meal is only porridge, and in order to eat porridge as dry rice, he always waits for the porridge to cool and condense, and then uses chopsticks to divide it into four pieces, and eats two pieces of pickles in the morning and evening, about the same as eating jelly today. Therefore, the allusion of "cutting porridge and cutting" has been handed down, which is on a par with the thorny strands of the hanging beam and the stealing of light from the chiseled wall.
This is already the ultimate in diligent study, but fate still has to give him a little stimulation: Fan Zhongyan accidentally learned that he was not the son of the Zhu family, and he had been living on the help of his stepfather for all these years. Fan Zhongyan's self-esteem was greatly hurt, and from that moment on, he made up his mind that in the future, he must stand on his own and fight for a future with his own hands.
Therefore, he ignored the hardships of his mother and stepfather and left home with only the simplest luggage. He no longer wanted even the slightest help from his stepfather, and he believed that he had the ability to break through the sky.
At the age of twenty-three, Fan Zhongyan entered the Ying Tianfu Academy as he wished. This is one of the four major academies of the Song Dynasty, with complete books and elites. Today, it is difficult for us to imagine the rarity of ancient books, although printing has matured at that time, but the cost of printing and circulation is not cheap, even the rich family is difficult to buy a few decent books, so the book xiang mendi has an enviable educational advantage.
Books in the academy can be borrowed for free, what a treasure. Fan Zhongyan allowed himself to wander in the ocean of knowledge, and to his classmates, the library seemed to have everything this poor child needed, so that he could survive without eating.
Of course, Fan Zhongyun still had to eat, but what he ate completely tarnished the sacred word "rice" in the eyes of his classmates.
Some second-generation students were touched and gave their own high-level snacks to Fan Zhongyan. However, a few days passed, and it was found that these snacks had not been touched at all, and only molded alone in the silent air. Fan Zhongyan soothed the anger of the second generation of officials in this way: "I am not ignorant of lifting, but I am worried that once I have eaten these high-level snacks, it will be difficult to eat chaff in the future." ”
What a concentration, if this is not enough to get ahead, I am afraid that everyone will be destroyed.
At that time, Fan Zhongyan wrote a Mingzhi poem to give to his classmate Yan Shu, and the last link was: "But if Sven Tian has not been lost, why should Jian Song complain about Shan Miao." ”
Meaning: The cold disciples are like pine trees in the depths of mountain streams, and no matter how tall they grow, they cannot emerge from the mountain streams. The second generation of officials and the second generation of the rich are like the grass on the top of the mountain, standing on the highest place as soon as they emerge, receiving the nourishment of sunshine and rain. However, as long as the avenues of the world are not completely destroyed, the pine trees at the bottom of the stream will always have a day of getting ahead, so why complain to the second generation of officials and the second generation of the rich about the unfairness of fate?!
Fan Zhongyan is indeed successful with amazing diligence, and all talents, opportunities, and the general trend of the times are not worth mentioning in front of his diligence.
