Grosjean defended Marcy: he made the right decision

Former F1 driver Romain Grosjean believes that in Abu Dhabi, F1 race director Michael Massey made the right decision.

Grosjean defended Marcy: he made the right decision

Ahead of Abu Dhabi's finale, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were tied in points, and just as Hamilton was on the verge of winning, the whole situation changed. Nicholas Latifi's crash triggered the safety car, and in order to secure the final lap of the race, Marcy first ruled that the snare car did not have to go beyond the safety car to unwind, then he changed his mind and only cleaned up the trap between P2's Verstappen and leader Hamilton before the race resumed. Verstappen overtook Hamilton on the final lap to win the title, which angered Mercedes, who protested twice after the match, but both times without success.

Hamilton has remained silent after Abu Dhabi, while the FIA is investigating the controversy at the end of the closing battle.

Grossjean believed That Marcie had made the right decision, rather than letting the protagonist of the championship battle be separated by the snare car in the final lap.

Asked what he thought of Marcy's behavior at an Indy's press conference, Grosjean said: "It would be very strange not to untangle those traps and then leave Max four cars behind on the final lap." On the other hand, it was definitely not a great decision for Lewis, but as a fan, as a spectator of the sport, I think Michael Massey made the right decision and I don't think it would be good to take the car with the race. ”

Verstappen put on a new soft tyre at the pit stop under the safety car, while Hamilton didn't, having been using heavily worn hard tyres, so when the race restarted, Hamilton had to sit still. But Grosjean noted that Verstappen wasn't lucky for the entire season. Earlier this season, Verstappen suffered quite a few misfortunes, including a flat tire while leading in Baku and being hit by Valteli Bottas in the Hungarian starting stage.

Grosjean said: "I think the wrong idea is to think that the season has only been played one lap. It was 22 Grands Prix, and if you look at the whole season, you know that Max had a puncture in Baku, Valtelli bumped into Verstappen in Hungary, and Silverstone. I think at the end, if we look at how many points Verstappen lost without making a mistake on his own, he's a guy who deserves to be the title. In Abu Dhabi, Lewis deserved to win the title, but he had bad luck in the final lap. As a fan, I love the last lap and it's very exciting to watch the race. ”
