Michael Massey has a high probability of leaving the FIA
Over the past few weeks, the FIA has launched an investigation into the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Newly elected president Surayem said he would rearrange the decisions for the final stages of the match.
In simple terms, the aim of this move is to re-establish the FIA's trust in F1 teams, drivers and fans.
All possible decisions or changes will be made on March 18, two days before the start of the new season.
In addition to the findings, another decision needed to be made earlier, namely Marcy's whereabouts. Because his decision in the safety car stage caused great controversy. Hamilton also told the team at the end of the race that the race was being manipulated. Although Mercedes protested, they were all rebuffed.
Wolf meets with Surayem
The FIA's promise to reopen the investigation also prevented Mercedes from further appeals. Mercedes dropped plans to appeal, demanding that the FIA must shoulder its responsibilities. On Friday, Wolfe had met with Surayem.
Mercedes, Wolf and Hamilton all want the FIA to give them a satisfactory answer. But no concrete decision has been made so far, especially about Massy's future.
Motorsport Secretary-General Piet Beyer has said that it has submitted "proposals for the 2022 season to check and optimize the organizational structure of the FIA-F1", with the goal of adjusting the organization.
Expert: Expulsion from Marcy will not help
Given the current situation, the FIA is likely to fire Massey and appoint a new race director. But in Martin Blunder's view, such an operation would not help.
Brundel believes that in a season of 23 games, he has to do too much work alone. Even if the organizational structure changes, even if the event director can get more support, Marcy should not continue to take on this job.
Because of the decision to race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, many teams and drivers have now lost trust in Marcy. Of course, it was not just because of the final decision, Hamilton and Verstappen had many accidents in the previous races, but Marcy has not been able to give clear criteria, especially the driver's judgment criteria in wheel-to-wheel confrontations are erratic, which has attracted the driver's accusations.
Marcy's appointment was somewhat hasty, as Charlie Whiting took over the race director position in 2019 after the sudden death of Charlie Whiting. Objectively speaking, Marcie is a man worthy of sympathy and deserves enough respect regardless of whether he continues to work.
Massi was asked to leave because many feared that the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix would have an impact on his future decisions. But the FIA also faces difficulties, as there is no particularly suitable replacement.
Whiting has been the tournament director for almost 30 years, and his influence is hard to ignore. And as the number of games played during the season increases, so does the pressure of this work.
The FIA is already planning a discussion with teams and drivers to discuss issues related to the race director. The FIA is expected to submit a comprehensive analysis and recommendations in February with a final decision in March.
Marcy's presence is crucial to F1's future and may have an impact on Hamilton's future. But most importantly, the FIA takes the first step towards change, further refining the rules and regulations of the race and reducing the emergence of controversies.
