Subsequently, Xu Guofu led the whole division south from Lishidong and met two regiments of the Eighth Division of the ROK Army and some American troops on the narrow road. Because it was a night march, the enemy and we were mixed together, and at first we did not even find each other.
Until dawn the next day, the three regiments of the 119th Division fought at almost the same time, and even the division headquarters where Xu Guofu personally sat was mixed up with the ROK and American troops.
After fierce fighting, the 119th Division destroyed two regiments of the 8th Division of the ROK Army in one fell swoop, capturing more than 300 enemy soldiers and more than 40 officers and men of the 1st Cavalry Division of the US Army.

On November 1, the Battle of Yunshan, which is famous for its military history, was officially launched, and Xu Guofu was ordered to lead the 119th Division to advance towards the first line of attack on Ningbian.
On 5 November, the 355th Regiment of the Division's vanguard regiment and the 8th Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army fought an encounter near Yongwondong. After two days and two nights of fierce fighting, the volunteer army annihilated more than 300 enemy troops.
The Third Battalion of the 355th Regiment, as the sharp knife battalion of the whole regiment, performed particularly well in this battle. Liu Jitai, instructor of the third battalion, personally commanded the troops to launch a surprise attack on the howitzer position of the Eighth Regiment of the US First Division, capturing more than 30 American officers and men and destroying 7 enemy howitzers.
Subsequently, the other two regiments of the 119th Division also participated in the battle to pursue and annihilate the American army, and also played the military prestige of the volunteer army, and achieved impressive results.
According to incomplete statistics, the whole division killed, wounded, and captured 1,672 officers and men of the "United Nations Army" in the Battle of Yunshan (including 547 who annihilated the US army), in addition to capturing dozens of cannons of various kinds, more than 10 tanks, cars, and a large number of other booty.
The gradual victories of the 119th Division and its fraternal units forced the "United Nations Army" to retreat south of the Cheongcheon River, thus dealing a heavy blow to the arrogance of the enemy and being commended by the General Order of the Forty Army and the Headquarters of the Volunteer Army.
In the Battle of Yunshan, the commanders and fighters of the 119th Division also gained full enlightenment from the huge difference in supply between the enemy and us.
The regiments of the division won successive battles and captured many military ration boxes from the US army, from which they realized that the US army was a "young master soldier" who was out and for all.
According to the regulations of the US military at that time, every three soldiers were provided with a ration box containing canned meat, bread or rice, coffee and other drinks, candy, paper and other necessities of life.

What is in great contrast with the "young master" style of the US army is that the commanders and fighters of the 119th Division of the Volunteer Army overcame the extreme hunger, cold, and fatigue caused by the difficulty of supplying the 14-day campaign, frequently carried out interspersed detours, surrounded and annihilated, and often marched and fought for several days and nights in a row, but the US army suffered unspeakably.
Especially in terms of food supply, the volunteers could not eat anything comparable to that of the American army. During the war, they often had only one meal a day to eat, and when the situation was bad, they could only eat one meal for several days, and they could only eat some simple foods such as fried noodles and frozen potatoes to feed them.
