Kong Xianquan is a native of Liuyang, Hunan, born in 1911, his parents farmed for a living, and he could only barely maintain food and clothing after a year of hard work. Because his family was poor, Kong Xianquan was forced to drop out of school after only a few years of private school and helped his parents do farm work at home. In 1928, the 17-year-old Kong Xianquan joined the revolution, and a year later officially joined the Ranks of the Red Army, participated in the first to fifth anti-"encirclement and suppression", because of the bravery of the battle, he charged forward every time, so he was wounded many times in the battle, and was called "the immortal Cheng Biting Jin" by his comrades-in-arms.

After the defeat of the fifth anti-"encirclement and suppression" campaign, the main force of the Red Army was forced to leave the Soviet zone and begin the Long March. After the end of the Xiangjiang Campaign, the Red Army was sharply reduced from more than 80,000 people at the time of departure to more than 30,000 people, in order to strengthen combat effectiveness, many troops were downsized, cadres were also demoted to use, and Kong Xianquan was also demoted from regimental cadres to combat staff officers. In late February 1935, the Red Army decided to capture Loushan Pass to open a passage for the troops to move north. In order to find out the enemy's defensive deployment, Kong Xianquan was ordered to lead several scouts to attack overnight, captured several prisoners, and clarified the distribution of enemy firepower.

In the early morning of February 25, the Red 13th Regiment, with the cooperation of fraternal troops, launched a fierce attack on the enemy. The enemy relied on danger to defend and stubbornly resisted, and the battle was extremely fierce. In order to end the battle as soon as possible, Kong Xianquan decided to capture the thief first, and he led a commando team to attack the black temple enemy brigade command post on the south side of Loushan Pass. Unexpectedly, when the commando rushed to a distance of only one hundred and ten meters from the enemy's command post, the enemy's reinforcements also arrived.

Kong Xianquan took the lead and rushed toward the enemy, and the enemy and we fought together. Due to their far inferior numbers, the commandos eventually lost, and Kong Xianquan's left leg crotch was hit by enemy machine gun bullets and seriously wounded. At the critical moment, the follow-up troops rushed up, and the fighters hurriedly carried Kong Xianquan down the position. Although the commando team led by Kong Xianquan failed to destroy the enemy's command post, the enemy did not expect the Red Army to be so heroic and demoralized. The Red Army took the opportunity to attack and finally took Loushan Pass.

Due to the urgency of the military situation, the Red Army stayed in Guizhou for a period of time and continued to move north. Kong Xianquan was too badly wounded to follow the troops, and his superiors decided to leave him in the home of a local rich man surnamed Song to recuperate, leaving him with 300 oceans. In order to prevent the Rich Lord of Song from seeing the wealth, Yang Yong took a picture of his house and said to the Rich Lord of Song: "You are responsible for the safety of this person, protect him well, and we will thank you; if there is a mistake, only you ask." Don't forget, we have the photos and we will come back to check on you. ”

Yang Yong's words shocked the Song rich man, and after the Red Army left, he did not dare to be evil, and invited a doctor to treat Kong Xianquan's injuries. After nearly two years of recuperation, Kong Xianquan's injuries were completely healed, but his left leg was shortened by nearly 10 centimeters, leaving him with a lifelong disability. After that, Kong Xianquan tried to return to the team many times, but due to the lack of information and backward communications, he did not know where his old troops had gone. After many fruitless attempts, Kong Xianquan had to settle in Zunyi and make a living as a cargo man.
