In 1934, faced with the failure of the fifth anti-encirclement and suppression campaign, the Red Army had to make a strategic shift and began a long march. In this twenty-five-thousand-mile-long strategic shift, the enemy initially pursued it in an attempt to wipe out the main force of the Red Army and completely strangle the Communist Party of China on the way. During this period, there were countless battles large and small, and the Battle of Loushan Pass took place in such a situation.
Early this morning, Peng Dehuai received a secret order from the central government to lay down Loushan Pass by the end of February, so that he could make all the preparations for the capture of Zunyi City.
