Yang Sen, then commander of the 20th Army of the Kuomintang Army, deputy commander of the Southwest Governor's Office, and commander-in-chief of the Chongqing Garrison Headquarters, was also willing to surrender, but was refused.

Yang Sen sent a telegram to surrender to Liu Deng's army, but did not get a response, Yang Sen saw that the telegram was useless, so he sent someone to negotiate.

Yang Sen saw that the negotiations could not be concluded, so he had to follow Chiang Kai-shek's government to Taiwan.

In 1937, due to the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Yang Sen was appointed as a military commander by Chiang Kai-shek's government and ordered him to lead the Sichuan army to participate in the Battle of Songhu.
Under the leadership of Yang Sen, the Sichuan army fought bloodily and stubbornly held its position, and the 18,000-strong army suffered as many as 7,000 casualties in seven days.
In January 1938, Yang Sen was appointed commander-in-chief of the 27th Group Army and commander of the 20th Army, and in the Battle of Nanchang, he engaged in a tug-of-war with the Japanese army, and finally lost to the Japanese army, and Yang Sen led his troops to withdraw from the battlefield.

In June of the same year, Yang Sen's troops were attacked by the Japanese army at night during the Battle of Wuhan. Yang Sen did not fight and abandoned the city of Anqing, where he was stationed, and Chiang Kai-shek denounced him in a telegram for "abandoning the famous city and laughing at his friends", but in the end he was only punished with "dismissal and retention".
In September 1939, Yang Sen led his troops to defend the southern part of the Hubei Mountains in the Battle of Changsha, blocking the assault of the Japanese 33rd Division, and successfully slowing down the pace of the Japanese advance.

On June 12, 1939, on Chiang Kai-shek's orders, Yang Sen secretly sent a company of the special service battalion to surround the communications office of the New Fourth Army in Chiayi Town, Pingjiang County, Hunan Province.

Against the backdrop of national difficulties at that time, Yang Sen actually accepted Chiang Kai-shek's orders, openly provoked infighting, and created the "Pingjiang Massacre.", which is really difficult to forgive.

Seeing that the surrender was unsuccessful, Yang Sen had to retreat to Chengdu in a hurry, and on December 18, he flew away from the mainland for Taiwan.
In April 1950, Chiang Kai-shek appointed Yang Sen as Taiwan's "General of the Presidential Office National Policy Adviser" and "Strategic Adviser to the Strategic Advisory Committee".

In his later years, Yang Sen decided to end his official career, he resigned all his positions, moved out of downtown Taipei, bought a mountain in Daoziyuan, Xindian Town, Taipei County, and built a villa to spend his old age here.

On February 20, 1974, on The ninetieth birthday of Yang Sen, Chiang Kai-shek sent people to arrange a birthday hall for Yang Sen at the Officers Club of the Three Armed Services of the Ministry of National Defense. Janssen was even happier to hear that many people called him a legend. He said: "I have lived an ordinary and real life, if the years do not make people old, I will continue to show my strength and serve life." ”
At the birthday party, Yang Sen's Sichuan compatriot Zhang Qun came to visit him, and Yang Sen said to Zhang Qun: "I just like to be with young people, so that I can have vitality." Zhang Qun smiled, "Then do you still plan to beg (marry) another young man?" Janssen smiled and did not comment.

Less than a year after this, Zhang Lingfeng actually gave birth to the last daughter for Yang Sen, the ninety-year-old man who had a son, and it was a strange talk at home and abroad for a while.
