A peculiar war in military history: our army's "guest brigade" lured the enemy to the door to "eat a banquet"

During the Liberation War, a rather peculiar battle was staged in the units of the prestigious Liu Deng army: When the enemy pursued him in a big way, our army not only did not shy away from it, but on the contrary sent a "guest brigade" with ingenious ideas, and used a series of ingenious methods to lure the enemy army to the designated place foolishly to "eat a banquet," and finally annihilated a large number of enemies.

First, let's talk about the background of this strange battle example.

It was in early September 1947 that the Nationalist army mobilized up to 23 brigades and launched a siege on Liu Deng's army in a vain attempt to expel them from the Dabie Mountains. The enemy and us launched a fierce battle that lasted for many days.

By October 24, in order to prevent Liu Deng's army from crossing the river to the south, the enemy dispatched five regiments of the reorganized 40th Division and the 82nd Brigade of the 52nd Division to advance rapidly from Hubei Toushui in the direction of Guangji.

Chief Liu Deng believed that this enemy had committed the great taboo of arrogantly indulging the enemy and advancing alone, and our army could just take them and cut them, and decided to ambush them in the area of Gaoshanpu Village in Caohe Town, Puchun County.

Subsequently, Yang Yong, the commander of the first column who was ordered to command the operation in a unified manner, ordered the troops scattered in the surrounding areas to quickly enter the designated area and lay a pocket array on the high mountain.

But how can the enemy be lured into obediently casting his net? Yang Yong was very thoughtful and deliberately instructed Zhang Caiqian, commander of the Central Plains Independent Brigade, to send a small group of troops to undertake the heavy task of luring the enemy by "inviting guests to the door."

Receiving this task were the Ninth Company of the Third Battalion of the Fourth Regiment of the Central Plains Independent Brigade and the Brigade Reconnaissance Team, who drew more than 100 cadres and fighters with agile actions and flexible minds to form a peculiar "guest brigade."

Brigadier Zhang Caiqian demanded that the "guest brigade" make full use of its wisdom and invite the "guests" to the alpine shop to eat a "banquet."

The team members all changed into plain clothes and some miscellaneous broken military uniforms, specially collected some old rifles of all kinds, set up a careless and loose posture, and walked down the road straight to Caohe Town.

Not far from Caohe Town, this "guest brigade" that looked like the "Tu Eight Road" encountered the enemy's sharp soldiers, but they were quick in their eyes and rushed to open fire in front of the enemy, and the enemy sharp soldiers did not have time to react at all, and they were beaten and fled backwards.

The enemy vanguard troops, which were advancing, were confused by the sudden attack of the "guest brigade" and were forced to stop advancing and rush to the battlefield.

In order to find out the situation, several enemy officers climbed to the high ground next to the highway to observe, only to see that there were only more than 100 "Tu Ba Lu" wearing miscellaneous clothes and a chaotic formation on the road, and listened carefully to the chaotic sound of their gunshots, all of which were "old sleeves", "Hubei strips" and broken "38 style".

When the enemy officers saw this situation, they could not help but be overjoyed, and concluded that this was "the local guerrillas of the Eighth Route Army to stir up trouble", which was not a problem, but gave them the opportunity to annihilate the main force of the communist army.

Therefore, the enemy officer reported the situation to Li Zhenqing, commander of the 40th Division behind him, while sending a battalion of troops to pursue the "guest brigade".

The commander of the enemy division, Li Zhenqing, was riding a high-headed horse and leading a large force to advance forward, when he suddenly heard the sudden sound of gunfire in the front, and was wondering whether he had encountered the main force of the communist army, but he got a report from the vanguard troops that it was only a small group of communist troops.

When Li Zhenqing heard this, he immediately drove the brigade of men and horses to speed up and follow, trying to eat this communist army in one bite, "Before eating a big meal, first open the meat and then say."

When the "guest brigade" saw that the enemy had taken the bait, they turned their heads and "invited" the "guests" behind them to follow them.

Unexpectedly, the enemy's pursuit style was too lazy, and after chasing for about three or four miles, he stopped and refused to move.

The commander of the "Guest Brigade" thought to himself, "What? Don't you want to come? That's not ok! The 'banquet' has already been set up for you in the front, waiting for you! Since you are so lazy, let's press a little more. ”

So he ordered his troops to turn their heads and make another fierce attack on the enemy who had stopped.

The enemy's vanguard troops died and were wounded, and more than 20 fell at once.

This completely excited the enemy commander, who was furious and continued to pursue him with his troops.

In this way, the "guests" followed closely behind them, and the "guest brigade" did not immediately lead in front; the "guests" stopped and did not follow, and the "guest brigade" repeatedly "urged" until the enemy was amused and tracked down.

After this repeated tossing and turning, the "guest brigade" actually exhausted the enemy brigade. While pursuing, the officers and men of the enemy army kept cursing loudly at the abominations of these "Tu Eight Roads", but the more so, the more reluctant they were to let go of these communist "scattered soldiers and brave soldiers".

In this way, the enemy's reorganized Forty-twentieth Division and the Eighty-second Brigade of the Fifty-second Division were "invited" step by step to the Gaoshanpu area, foolishly waiting to eat the "banquet" set by our army.

At 11:30 a.m. on the 27th, the various units of Liu Deng's army, which participated in the ambush of Gaoshanpu, officially launched a general attack on the enemy. The officers and men of our army surrounded them on all sides, and their momentum was like a rainbow, and they defeated the enemy who came to send them to death.

At about 14:00 p.m., the battle was all over, and the enemy's reorganized 40th Division and the 82nd Brigade of the 52nd Division were all annihilated, becoming the first major victory of Liu Deng's army advancing into the Central Plains, thus hanging on to the history of the army.

At the post-war celebration meeting, Chief Liu Deng and Commander Yang Yong gave special commendations to the "guest brigade" that took on the task of enticing the enemy, praising them for their outstanding performance and successfully "inviting guests to the door," which played an irreplaceable role in the great victory of our army.
