Weilongjiang Village is a large village of nearly 1,000 people, but also an easy to defend and difficult to attack "trench village", in addition to the village east, west and south sides of the gate, the rest are more than 7 meters high, more than 3 meters wide polder wall, there are more than 2 meters deep trench under the polder wall.
On this afternoon, Tan Duanzhi, commander of the 1st Battalion of the 5th Detachment, received a handwritten letter from Cao Zhendong, commander of the "Shandong Security Fifth Brigade," who had been pursued by the Japanese puppet army of the brigade, requesting that the 5 detachments of the Eighth Route Army be able to give them clearance and cover regardless of their previous suspicions.
Although he was very angry at the rebellion of the "Fifth Brigade of Cao", Tan Duanzhi still very generously let Cao Zhendong's men and horses retreat through Weilongjiang Village and retreat in the direction of Liu Shuanghuai Village. In order to "take revenge", Yasuda gathered more than 2,000 people from Dezhou, Cangxian, Yanshan and other places, and divided them into more than 60 cars and armored vehicles, equipped with more than 500 cavalry and artillery. In the early morning of April 1, Long Shujin was awakened by the barking of the dog "Wang Wang" and immediately led the 12th company of the 3rd Battalion to launch a blockade.
