But Deng Jiaxian resolutely decided to participate in the nuclear test, and one day in the spring of 1985, Deng Jiaxian left Lop Nur for the last time. As soon as he returned to Beijing, Deng Jiaxian fell ill and was hospitalized, diagnosed with rectal cancer, and it was already advanced.
