For Wen Tianxiang, the "History of Song" has an evaluation: "Sexual luxury." "He said that he had a bold personality, lived a very luxurious life, liked high-standard enjoyment, and raised a large group of singers at home, and waited for him like a god."
This assessment does not contradict the facts. From Wen Tianxiang's own biographical article "Chronicle", it is indeed found that he had a large number of wives and concubines: he was 20 years old, married a daughter-in-law, with the surname of Ouyang; married two side chambers, one surnamed Yan and one surnamed Huang; and later successively took seven concubines. As soon as he walked around the house, he hugged back and forth, all of them were warblers and swallows.
These wives and concubines bore him a large number of children, including two sons and six daughters. Although the two sons were called "Daosheng" and "Buddha", it was clear that Wen Tianxiang did not intend to live a life of poverty as a monk or a Taoist.
In addition to the herds of wives and concubines and the flocks of children, Wen Tianxiang also built a large villa for himself. This large villa is located in his hometown in Jiangxi, more than a hundred miles away from the county seat of Luling County, covering an area of about 50 acres. This piece of land is flat, the feng shui is very good, backed by a big mountain, left by a big mountain, on the right side is still a big mountain, surrounded by three mountains, the front is sunny, and a mountain spring bends and curves from the south. Surrounded by green mountains and clear springs, Wen Tianxiang himself said that this was really the ideal residence of the hermit.
Wen Tianxiang was only in his thirties when he built the villa, and had already served as a director (a criminal officer) and a mayor (Zhizhou), and he was generous and rewarded, and he had enough money in his hands. Because he had money, he could afford to buy land and build a house. He said triumphantly: At that time, Zhu Xi and his old man wanted to live in seclusion in Wuyi Mountain, and they had no money to build a house, so they could only give up; Ouyang Xiu and his old man actually built a house in Yingzhou West Lake, but Yingzhou was not his hometown after all. Compared with the two sages, I Wen Tianxiang is really lucky! Both money to build a house, but also to build a house in my hometown, sigh, God did not treat me badly!
Unfortunately, not long after Wen Tianxiang was proud, Yuan Bing called over. Seeing that his homeland was not safe, he sold his land and houses in anger, raised his own funds to recruit soldiers and horses, and took ten thousand rebels to fight with the Yuan soldiers until he was captured and died unyieldingly. From this point of view, although Wen Tianxiang loves to enjoy, he loves the country more.
