Seven Years of Love: Illuminating the Path to Education for Children in Dashan

author:The Paper

In Xilinnazuo Miao Township, Baise City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, a group of children grow up in a mountain valley, and their lives are very different from the prosperity of the city. They are hungry for knowledge and eager to learn about the outside world.

Their path to study was winding and tortuous, most of them dozens of miles long. But even if they travel dozens of miles over mountains and mountains, even if the cold wind howls in winter, the scorching heat in summer, and even if they walk alone in the dark, they also understand that the road to study must continue. Only by taking this road well can we have the opportunity to get out of the closed mountains and see the world outside.

On April 19, SAIC Green Core and SAIC Passenger Vehicle joined hands with Roewe D5X DMH, MG4 EV and MG7 escort volunteers to carry out student assistance activities in Nazuo Miao Township again.

In addition to the regular public welfare classes, material donations, pair assistance, and family visits, they also brought solar street lamps as scheduled this time to illuminate the children's dreams of studying in Xilin Nazuo Miao Township Primary School.

An Unexpected Appointment

At first, the idea of transporting solar street lights to the primary school in Xilinnazuo Miao Township was not planned, but it was a windfall. In 2019, Shao Hua accidentally learned that it was not easy for them to go home while giving a lecture to the children.

"The first time I gave a lecture to the children, they were very happy with everything about new energy. However, when I wanted to talk more, the teacher urged me to remind me that the children had to get home before dark, and that the farthest children would have to climb two hours to get there. Shao Hua recalled.

Nazuo Miao Township belongs to Baise City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the old revolutionary base area, and it is located in the westernmost part of Guangxi. Located at the junction of Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, and surrounded by mountains in Xilin, "traffic is blocked, infrastructure is seriously insufficient, and power outages are frequent," Shao Hua said. It was from that moment that she realized that someone needed to stand up and light the way for this group of children.

As the head of the testing department of the project operation department of Jieneng Company, Shao Hua's first thought was how to use the existing resources to help children in mountainous areas fundamentally solve the lighting problem on the way to school.

Why use safe and healthy battery cells from the retired batteries of electric vehicles to make solar street lights? In addition to low-carbon environmental protection, help more people, the idea of manufacturing public welfare solar street lights was born. Solar charging panels are installed on the top, which generate electricity through the sun during the day and store the electrical energy in the battery cells, and the battery cells release electric energy and light up the street lights at night, which can not only recycle and reuse the retired batteries, but also solve the lighting problems for children to go to school and go home.

However, the idea took four years from germination to implementation, and the reason why it took longer than imagined was not only to find reliable recycling and manufacturing plants, but also to consider safety.

During this period, SAIC engineers verified and optimized the reliability of the street lights over and over again. According to the engineer, before the donation, the first batch of sample lamps had been operating in the park of SAIC Green Core for two years. "In the wind and rain, we look at whether they function properly and how well the battery decays. Shao Hua said.

Considering the complex weather changes in mountainous areas and the lack of sunshine time, the battery cells equipped with solar street lamps can meet the capacity of continuous rainy lighting after one day's sunshine, and can also automatically adjust the brightness, and the lights dim in the second half of the night to reduce power consumption.

A seven-year covenant

The children's thirst for knowledge and their vision for the future never stops. SAIC's "Green Core Drives the Future" student assistance activity is like an inextinguishable light, illuminating the road of their dreams.

Since 2018, SAIC Green Core's public welfare activities have been in mature operation for seven years. At present, Jieneng "Green Core Scholarship Fund" has donated a total of 126,000 yuan in scholarships and rewarded more than 350 students, donated more than 24,000 yuan to the school construction fund to improve the living and learning environment of students, and with everyone's loving help, Nazuo Primary School has also built a "Jieneng Love Library", which has a collection of more than 5,000 donated books.

In the past seven years, responsibility and responsibility have become the background color of SAIC employees. Even in the three years since the epidemic was in place, they have never stopped the pace of public welfare. It has successively helped every dream through student fund donations, love pair assistance, library donations, love street lamp donations, etc., lighting up countless futures in the deep mountains and river valleys.

This year, the theme of the Charity is "Green Core Lights the Road to Study", and in addition to regular items and cash donations, solar street lamps and wall lamps were also donated to Nasa Primary School and local poor families.

The retired power batteries of new energy vehicles have been given new life by SAIC engineers. They have become street lamps and walls, etc., and have become guardians of the night for children in the mountains. This innovative public welfare practice is a major landing scenario in the process of battery cascade utilization, and has contributed to the construction of education and infrastructure in mountainous areas.

According to Shao Hua, the design scheme of the solar street lamp is also the result of internal brainstorming. The MG4 EV is the 2023 "European Compact Pure Electric Sales Champion" and "China's New Energy Vehicle Export Champion".

"I hope that the children will be like the MG4 EV and keep running forward to a wider world. ”

Looking back at Xilin Nazuo Miao Township, which is surrounded by mountains, it is the vigorous vitality of the mountains and wilderness, and you can only see the other side of life when you walk in. Through seven years of hard work, SAIC employees have formed a deeper bond with the children in the mountains, and they have brought hope to education in the mountains with love and ignited the children's desire for knowledge.

Cascade utilization

As part of the "Green Core Drives the Future" student assistance activity, SAIC Green Core and SAIC Passenger Vehicle are making retired batteries shine again in the form of public welfare.

In Shao Hua's view, this is just a starting point, how to carry out the in-depth utilization of power batteries before the "retirement tide" of new energy vehicles, and actively assume social responsibility, such a problem is imminent.

With the rapid development of new energy vehicles, a large number of battery recycling problems have begun to appear. According to the prediction of the New Energy Battery Recycling Professional Committee and the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, by 2027, the cumulative retirement of power batteries will reach 1.14 million tons. By 2030, the number of power battery retirements may increase to 3.5 million tons.

In order to promote the low-carbon and green development of the automobile industry, SAIC R&D Institute and SAIC Passenger Vehicle have long been committed to the cascade utilization and recycling of power batteries. In SAIC Anting Park, the Shanghai New Energy Ecological Demonstration Zone has been built and operated stably for nearly two years, with a cumulative economic benefit of nearly 100,000 yuan and a reduction of 136 tons of carbon emissions. Among them, the energy storage battery (Roewe Marvel X warranty road test retired battery cascade utilization) has an equivalent mileage of nearly 200,000 km, and the battery attenuation is only 11%.

The new energy ecological demonstration zone integrates energy storage power stations, photovoltaic carports, and DC charging and discharging piles, showing the epitome of future ecology. The successful operation of this demonstration area has provided valuable experience for the new energy vehicle power battery recycling industry. Solar street lamps are also located in the park, which has become a major landing scene for the cascade utilization of power batteries.

In recent years, focusing on the national strategic goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality", SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle has fully implemented SAIC's innovation and transformation strategy and the "Three-year Action Plan for the Development of New Energy Vehicles", fully focused on the development of new energy vehicles, actively promoted the construction of green factories, increased the development and launch of new energy products, and further explored carbon reduction throughout the life cycle of vehicles.

In Shao Hua's view, solar street lamps are not only for children in mountainous areas to send love, on the other hand, but also to guide more consumers to let everyone know that new energy vehicles should be recycled to formal channels after retirement.

"We hope that through scientific and technological innovation and active social responsibility, we can illuminate the future of children and the sustainable development of the new energy vehicle industry. Shao Hua said.
