In 1925, he joined the Kuomintang and defected to Wang Jingwei, who followed him as an executioner to suppress the Guangzhou Uprising. After Wang Jingwei defected to the Japanese, Chen Gongbo became one of the main members of the Wang Jingwei clique, and later became the second most important person in the Wang puppet government, serving as the vice chairman of the puppet Kuomintang, second only to Wang Jingwei, and was Wang Jingwei's most trusted person. He colluded with the Japanese to plunder China's resources, plundered the people's fat and people's ointment, and even intervened in the public sale of opium.
After Wang Jingwei's death, the puppet government of Nanjing recommended Chen Gongbo as chairman and wang Jingwei's successor; Chen Gongbo, seeing that Japan's downfall was not far away, in order to leave a way back for himself, he hurriedly made overtures to Chiang Kai-shek after he came to power and actively cooperated in suppressing the Communists. After Japan's unconditional surrender, Chen Gongbo fled Japan like a dog who lost his family, and staged a fake suicide farce to escape punishment, but under the kuomintang government's demand that people die and see corpses, the Japanese side had to hand over Chen Gongbo and others.
On the afternoon of April 12, 1946, the Jiangsu Provincial High Court pronounced a judgment on Chen Gongbo, sentencing Chen Gongbo to death, and the judge asked him whether he needed to appeal, Chen Gongbo understood that this was the result of Chiang Kai-shek's decision, and the appeal was useless, so there was no appeal. On June 2, Chen Gongbo was moved to Jiangsu No. 3 Prison to await execution, Chen Gongbo knew that there were not many days to come, but he also seemed very calm, the big and small traitors in the same prison have taken this opportunity to almost ask for some of his ink, Chen Gongbo is also asking for Bing without stinginess.
On this day, Chen Gongbo had just finished washing up after getting up, and the warden asked him to write a pair of couplets, and the tone was more urgent, so Chen Gongbo wrote down a pair of couplets with a pen. Then the cell door opened, and Chen Gongbo said is it to be executed today? Chen Gongbo's face was pale, and the bailiff who tried his best to hide his inner panic was noncommittal. Chen Gongbo asked again if I could write a few words? The bailiff said yes, so Chen Gongbo wrote a suicide note to his family, and then wrote a letter to Chiang Kai-shek.
After writing the suicide note, Chen Gongbo said to the bailiff, "Let's go, goodbye in the next life", and also pretended to shake hands with the bailiff, around 8 o'clock Chen Gongbo was caught in the temporary courtroom, after the judge routinely asked him about his name and age, asked if he still had something to say, Chen Gongbo said because of a moment, "I have a pen that was given by Zhao Xingxing, there is a Great Medal of the Rising Sun that was given by the Emperor of Japan, these two things are in my bed, asking for burial" The judge heard that he did not change his traitorous nature before he died, and he was very angry, so he interrupted him. Ask him what else he wants.
Chen Gongbo asked to say goodbye to Wang Jingwei's wife, Chen Bijun, and when he met Chen Bijun, Chen Gongbo bowed deeply and left a teapot he used for her, and said, "I will take a step first to see Mr. Wang" Then Chen Gongbo was taken to the execution site, and he said to the bailiff who executed, "Please help more, do a clean point for me" When he walked to the designated position, he stood facing east and straightened out his robe, then turned left to the north, put his hands in his pants pockets and closed his eyes, and said in a loud voice, "Shoot quickly, shoot quickly" After a bang, The second traitor of the Wang puppet government ended his life at the age of 54.
