On the road of the early development of our party, there was such a person, who was once a great representative, but had no confidence in the future of the revolution, and later defected to the enemy and betrayed the country as a traitor, although he also enjoyed the glory and wealth inexhaustibly, but in the end he was left with a bad reputation, and he was Li Gongbo.
Early revolutionary pioneers
Chen Gongbo was born in Guangzhou in 1892, his grandfather and father both served as military attachés of the Qing Dynasty, so his family was superior, and he had a very good living and learning environment from an early age.
Before the age of 15, he had been educated in orthodox Sinology, and his mentor Liang Xuetao, who called himself a "KangLiang descendant", often said something about Kang Liang's restoration and reform of the law when teaching students, which had an enlightening effect on Chen Gongbo's acceptance of new ideas.
In 1917, Chen Gongbo, who came to the campus of Peking University, was shocked and baptized by new ideological trends, and after graduating from Peking University, he came to Guangzhou and threw himself into the propaganda of Marxist-Leninist thought.
In March 1921, Chen Gongbo, Chen Duxiu and others founded a party branch in Guangzhou, and four months later he came to Shanghai as a representative of Guangzhou to attend a congress, but in some points of view, he disagreed with other party members, thus doubting the correctness of Marxist-Leninist thought.
When he was planning to study abroad and further study, just when Chen Jiongming rebelled, the central authorities demanded that the Guangzhou branch sever ties with Chen Jiongming, but Chen Gongbo openly expressed support for Chen Jiongming, which was criticized by the central authorities, which eventually led Chen Gongbo to leave the party and study abroad.
Defecting to the enemy and committing treason became the second big traitor
After returning to China in 1925, Chen Gongbo joined the Kuomintang, and after being promoted by Wang Jingwei, he gradually entered the leadership core, and as a new party member, he had such a high status, he was very grateful to Wang Jingwei for his reuse and cultivation, and has been following Wang Jingwei ever since.
After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Wang Jingwei, who was pessimistic about the Sino-Japanese War, began to contact the Japanese and, with the support of Japan, established the Nanjing puppet national government, and in March 1940, after Chen Gongbo came to Nanjing, he was appointed president of the puppet Legislative Yuan, director of the political training department of the puppet Military Commission, and other important positions.
Later, with the improvement of his status, he has become the second person in the Wang puppet government, in March 1944, Wang Jingwei went to Japan for medical treatment, and before leaving, according to his proposal, Chen Gongbo acted as the chairman of the puppet national government and exercised his authority, and later Wang Jingwei died of illness in Japan, Chen Gongbo became the acting chairman of the puppet national government, and at this time reached the peak of his life.
However, in less than a year, Japan surrendered, Chen Gongbo knew that his end was coming, in order to escape punishment, he ran to Japan with his family, but in the voice of the people of the whole country to severely punish the traitors, Chen Gongbo was eventually extradited back to China, in April 1946, after the Trial of the Jiangsu High Court, sentenced to death, on June 3, 1946 was executed.
The end of Chen Gongbo's family
When his wife Li Lizhuang was also extradited back to China, when her husband was sentenced to capital punishment, Li Lizhuang took his two sons with him, fearing that the punishment would one day fall on them, but fortunately the Nationalist government did not find evidence that Li Lizhuang was involved in betraying the interests of the nation, did not hold them accountable, and restored their personal freedom.
But Li Lizhuang, who had been worried all day, finally decided to take his two sons abroad to earn a living.
Coming to the United States, the situation of the two sons in the second half of their lives was very different, the eldest son Chen Mai lived a low-key life and gradually disappeared into the eyes of the world, while Chen Gan did a great career.
After Chen Gan enrolled in the United States, he has been studying seriously, studying hard day and night, applying for a job at Westinghouse Electric After graduation, through more than ten years of hard work, he became an executive of the company, and later he founded his own company with his years of experience and accumulated savings, achieving hundreds of millions of family properties, and also let his mother have a happy old age.
