According to the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) reported on the 13th, the records of the US federal government show that a few days ago, a seriously corroded pipeline in New Orleans ruptured, resulting in more than 300,000 gallons of fuel leakage. Local officials said most of the fuel flowed into two artificial ponds, killing thousands of fish, birds and other animals.

Documents from the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Substances Safety Administration reportedly show that on Dec. 27, 2021, near an embankment east of New Orleans, it was reported that near the Collins Pipeline Co., 2021. There was a leak in the pipes that were operating.

According to statistics provided by a spokesperson for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the spill killed 2,300 fish and more than 100 other animals, including snakes, birds and crabs. In addition, nearly 130 animals were captured for rehabilitation.

The report said that before the spill, in October 2020, the pipeline had a corrosion situation. But management said subsequent inspections showed that the pipeline did not reach a point where it needed to be repaired immediately under federal regulations, and the repair work was delayed.

A pipeline safety source said that more than a year before the leak, people had known about the corrosion of the pipeline, but the fuel was still being exported through the pipeline, which was "maddening".

The head of the pipeline company, Michael Karlovich, responded in an email on January 12 that the company had repaired the pipeline and resumed operations. Work to recover fuel from artificial ponds has also been completed, collecting approximately 323,000 gallons of fuel.
