According to archaeologists, the tombs of the Kangxi Emperor experienced a total of three fires. The first time was in the thirty-first year of Guangxu. It is said that this fire destroyed the gate of the mausoleum, and the three glassmen behind the main hall did not escape. The fire in the royal mausoleum was a big thing, and Empress Dowager Cixi immediately sent someone to find out the situation after she knew it, one was Zhao Erxun, the governor of the three eastern provinces, and the other was Hubu Shangshu Tieliang, and the two came to Jingling, looked at the scene, and then investigated, and the results were shocked.
The fire was on February 20, and the main reason was caused by thunder in the sky, which caught fire after lightning hit Jingling. But this time is elusive, it was winter, and it was impossible to have thunder. What is even more strange is that the fire site is in the eaves, and the usual fire starts from a low place, and there has never been a precedent for the beginning of the eaves, because this fire is strange, and people are also talking about it.
Some people speculate that it may be that the tomb keepers are deceiving the royal family, they covet the gold and silver treasures inside, they guard themselves, and in order to cover up the facts of the crime, they set fire to destroy the evidence, but the contradictory statements arouse suspicion. Another theory is that this was a warning from heaven to Cixi, telling Cixi to quickly release the emperor, of course, no one dared to say so. In the end, the two could only conclude that it was god who accidentally split it before it caught fire, and the matter passed like this.
The second fire occurred in February of the lunar calendar in 1945. Legend has it that a group of tomb robbers saw the treasure of Jingling, they took the guy to chop Kangxi's coffin, but did not want the coffin to open soon, there was a fire erupting from it, the tomb robbers fled in a hurry, but knocked down the candle, which eventually caused a fire. The fire burned a row of mats, scorched rafters of nineteen, cornices three feet wide, eaves five feet wide, and it was determined that the fire was caused by man.
The third fire was shortly after the second, in 1952. This fire was caused by lightning strikes, and directly destroyed all the inscriptions written by Yongzheng to Kangxi, and it is reported that the above month is more than 4300 words, which is the first inscription written by the emperor himself in history, which is of great significance. Because the fire was extremely strong, although it was raining heavily, the fire was still burning very strongly, and some villagers risked their lives to rescue a few things, and then worked together to extinguish the fire, and the government also symbolically gave some soap and other things as a reward afterwards.
The fire in the imperial tomb is extremely rare, and what is even more strange is that the same imperial tomb actually caught fire 3 times. The cause of the fire, people have also speculated, so far has not given a convincing answer.
