A jailer in the Southern Song Dynasty, only because he risked death to bury a corpse, has been admired all over the world ever since

On the 29th day of december in the eleventh year of Shaoxing (January 27, 1142 AD), Emperor Gaozong of Song ordered, "Yue Fei was specially given death"!

On October 13, the eleventh year of Shaoxing (1141 AD), Yue Fei was thrown into the Dali Temple Prison. After being unjustly imprisoned for more than two months and being severely tortured, he left behind the eight characters of "Tianri Zhaozhao, Tianri Zhaozhao" and was brutally killed in the prison of Dali Temple (there is no record of "Fengbo Pavilion" in Song Dynasty historical records), only 39 years old. When the news of Yue Fei's death came out, the people of the Southern Song Dynasty wept over it. The ministers of the Golden Kingdom drank wine and celebrated, and said: "The peace talks have been firm since then."

After Yue Fei was killed, his body was once abandoned in the prison of Dali Temple, and no one dared to claim it, let alone restrain it. Because Yue Fei's family had already been sent to the southern frontier areas, his former friends and generals were intimidated by the obscenity of Qin Ju and other traitors, fearing retaliation by them. To use the atmosphere in the court at that time, it is described in one sentence: "Yue Fei died in prison, and when the courtiers were afraid of disasters, they did not dare to speak." "If no one collects Yue Fei's body for a long time, then the final result can only be abandoned in the wilderness." If such a situation really occurred, it would not only be ashamed of Yue Feijing's loyal soul to serve the country, but also make the loyal people of the Southern Song Dynasty completely chill.

It was also at this time that a small person stepped forward. He is said to be a small person because he is just an ordinary jailer in Lin'an City, that is, a small official who has no official and no quality and relies on meager Qilu to support his family, not only the date of birth is unknown, but his height and appearance are not known, and even there is no record in the main history. However, it was such an inconspicuous little person who did a big thing that Qingshi left a name for himself, that is, he "stole" Yue Fei's body from the prison of Dali Temple and buried it, and this person was Kui Shun.

According to the Song Ren's "Records of the Relics of the Dynasty and the Wilderness", "the jailer Kui Shun came out of the city and crossed the city to the Nine-Curve Cong Ancestral Hall." Therefore, to this day, the Nine-Qu King Xianmiao Temple is still spiritual. Shun buried the Northern Mountain of the Poetry". In the "Dream of the West Lake" written by the late Ming and early Qing dynasty writer Zhang Dai, there is also only one sentence, "When the king of Yue'e died, the jailer Kui Shun bore his body and crossed the city to the North Mountain for burial." ”

Although there are only a few words recorded, we can see that Kui Shun has gone through countless hardships in collecting Yue Fei's body. In order to bury Yue Fei, Kui Shun carried Yue Fei's body on his back at night, escaped from Dali Temple under the surveillance of the traitors and their minions, and then climbed the tall Lin'an city wall overnight to the Jiuqu Cong Ancestral Hall outside the Qiantang Gate in the northwest of Lin'an City and buried his body. In order to make it easier to identify in the future, during the burial, Kui Shun tied the jade ring worn by Yue Fei under the waist of his body, and planted two orange trees in front of the grave.

After that, Kui Shun was tight-lipped about Yue Fei's burial site and did not mention it to anyone. It was not until before his death that he told his son, "In the future, after the imperial court rehabilitates Lord Yue, if you can't find his remains, you will definitely offer a reward to find him, and then you will tell the government: There is a lead cylinder on Lord Yue's coffin, and there is a le character of Dali Temple on it, which is the mark I made when I buried him." In 1162, after Emperor Xiaozong of Song ascended the throne, he immediately ordered Yue Fei to be rehabilitated and offered a reward of 500 silver to find Yue Fei's body ("the imperial court purchased a burial place"). At this time, "Shun's son sued." and the coffin is born, but it is buried in a dress."

The imperial court relocated Yue Fei's remains to Qixialing on the shore of Hangzhou's Xizi Lake, that is, the "Tomb of king Yue E of Song" on the shore of Hangzhou's West Lake, and set up a temple in Wuchang, Hubei Province, with the name of Zhonglie, and repaired the biography of Song Shi Liezhi, so that future generations of people could hang in front of the tomb endlessly. It can be said that without this little-known little person Kui Shun, Yue Fei's remains would probably have been abandoned and unable to be found.

Of course, there are also people in later generations who believe that if the body is carried out of the Dali Temple Prison overnight and buried, it is impossible to do it with only one Kui Shun. Therefore, there should be many people involved, and Kui Shun is just the person who plays a key role in it. In fact, whether it was Kui Shun alone or everyone working together, it was enough to prove that Yue Fei was a great hero who stood tall in the hearts of the people of the Southern Song Dynasty, and everyone was willing to take risks for his future affairs. And Kui Shun is not afraid of risks, and is also admired by everyone.
