Shan Xiongxin was a famous fierce general in the late Sui and early Tang dynasties, who was brave and fearless when he fought, and was known as the "Flying General". Shan Xiongxin, Qin Qiong, Cheng Yaojin, and Xu Shijie, these people were all generals of Wagangzhai at the earliest, and later Li Mi's Wagang army was defeated by Wang Shichong, Xu Shiji followed Li Mi to defect to the Li Tang Dynasty, and Cheng Yaojin, Qin Qiong, and Shan Xiongxin defected to Wang Shichong. When Li Shimin first attacked Wang Shichong, Qin Qiong and Cheng Yaojin defected and defected to Li Tang's side, and when Li Shimin attacked Wang Shichong for the second time, Shan Xiongxin and Qin Qiong, Cheng Yaojin, Xu Shiji, and others became opponents on the battlefield.
In order to win over Shan Xiongxin, Wang Shichong specially married his daughter to him and made him a great general. However, at the Battle of Luoyang, Wang Shichong was eventually defeated by Li Shimin, and Shan Xiongxin was captured by Li Shimin. On the issue of treating the captives, Li Shimin forgave Wang Shichong, but named Shan Xiongxin to be killed. The reason why Li Shimin wanted to kill Shan Xiongxin was mainly because Shan Xiongxin almost killed Li Shimin twice on the battlefield, the first time was when Li Shimin and Wang Shichong's army were fighting, Shan Xiongxin pursued Li Shimin with him, and was bitterly dissuaded by Xu Shijie, so he let Li Shimin go.
The second time was when Li Shimin was reconnoitring the terrain, Shan Xiongxin raided Li Shimin, but fortunately Wei Chigong came to the rescue in time to save Li Shimin's life. Li Shimin wanted to kill Shan Xiongxin, entirely because of a personal vendetta. If Qin Qiong, Cheng Yaojin, Xu Shiji, and others interceded with Li Shimin, Li Shimin would definitely spare Shan Xiongxin in order to stabilize the general. However, what is strange is that after Shan Xiongxin was sentenced to death, Qin Qiong and Cheng Yaojin did not appear from beginning to end, and until Shan Xiongxin was killed, neither of them came forward to send Shan Xiongxin away, and only Xu Shiji kept going to Li Shimin to plead bitterly.
However, at that time, Xu Shijie's status and battle achievements were not as good as Cheng Jin and Qin Qiong, and moreover, he was alone and could not make Li Shimin change his mind at all. So why did Qin Qiong and Cheng Yaojin, who were also communicating with Wadang, not intercede for Shan Xiongxin? In fact, Qin Qiong and Cheng Yaojin did not intercede for Shan Xiongxin, mainly because the friendship between the three people was not deep, and even there might be some hatred between the three of them. Qin Qiong and Cheng Yaojin both belonged to Li Mi's subordinates, while Shan Xiongxin and Xu Shiji belonged to Zhai Rang's subordinates, and the two sides did not have much intersection in the early days, but after Li Mi's fire coin Zhai Rang, several of them began to come together.
In fact, after defecting to Li Tang, Xu Shiji's relationship with Qin Qiong and Cheng Yaojin was also relatively general, and moreover, Qin Qiong and Cheng Yaojin had already had conflicts with Shan Xiongxin when they left Wang Shichong. When he was about to be executed, Xu Shiji ran to Shan Xiongxin's side and cried and told him that he had failed to intercede several times. Shan Xiongxin was very open-minded, and he said to Xu Shiji: I already knew that this matter would not succeed. In this way, it seems that Shan Xiongxin also understood long ago that Qin Qiong and Cheng Yaojin would not help themselves intercede, and only Xu Shiji alone would definitely not be able to do this. When Shan Xiongxin was dying, Xu Shiji promised to help him raise his offspring, and cut off a piece of meat on his body for Shan Xiongxin to eat. After Shan Xiongxin's death, Xu Shijie adopted Shan Xiongxin's children, and later several of Shan Xiongxin's children became officials in the Tang Dynasty with the help of Xu Shijie.
