Sales of xboxes in this generation have exceeded all older generation consoles during the same period of their lifetime

Microsoft revealed that more Xbox Series X|S consoles have been sold at this stage of its lifecycle than any previous Xbox console in the same period.

In an interview with The New York Times, Xbox boss Phil Spencer discussed the current difficulty of finding a PlayStation 5 or Xbox series console. He said it wasn't because the supply was lower than in the past, but because the demand was much higher.

Spencer explains, "At this point in time, we're selling more xboxes, xbox series X and S, than any of our previous versions of Xbox. So our job is to get supply to meet that demand. ”

As more and more people stay at home, the global pandemic has accelerated interest in gaming. Spencer said: "We were surprised by the surge in demand for games. Back to March and April 2020, our consoles are sold out, and we've never been in that situation. ”

Spencer mentioned the Xbox One. In July 2020, Microsoft also announced that the full digital versions of One X and One S would be discontinued before series X |S was released. Demand for consoles is so high that the price of the previous generation of PlayStation 4 consoles has also gone up.

Despite last year's shortage of consoles, Microsoft says the Xbox Series X|S is the fastest-selling Xbox ever.
