Everyone wants their car to have a longer battery life, so as to reduce the number of times they look for a charging pile in the cold winter. However, for some Weijia owners, it may not be so lucky - since July and August last year, there has been a surge in online complaints about WM's "locking electricity", and a large number of car owners have said that their cars have fallen off a cliff after the upgrade of OTA and 4S stores.
"Lock the electricity" is suspicious
Looking at the forums of major automobile portals and complaint networks, we can find that from July last year to the present, the EX5, as the main sales model of the new car-making force WM, has been continuously complained by car owners.
According to the feedback of car owners, since the system upgrade was carried out in the middle of this year to the 4S store, the full power mileage of the vehicle has declined significantly.
The car with a nominal mileage of 400km can actually run 320km in the past, but after the upgrade, the cruising range is 250km. According to the information displayed by the vehicle, before this "negative upgrade", the maximum voltage of the vehicle battery can reach 406V when fully charged, and only 396V is left after the upgrade.
What is more excessive is that many car owners say that the reason why they will choose to upgrade is because WM launched a campaign called "New Year's Eve User Premium", using a 200 yuan JD card to "lure" users to the store for a "comprehensive inspection" of the vehicle, and after this inspection, they found that their vehicles had a problem of endurance decline.
And the timing of this activity is also quite intriguing...
Burned two cars in three days
Just before the launch of the "upgrade" service mentioned above, on December 20, 2021, an EX5 that was charging in a charging station in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, suddenly caught fire and spontaneously ignited, and it is understood that the owner heard the explosion in the car before rushing to escape, which is quite thrilling.
According to the owner, the EX5 has only been used for 7 or 8 months.
Two days later, that is, on December 22, another Weima EX5 in Sanya City, Hainan Province, spontaneously combusted during the driving process, fortunately, the personnel in the car were also evacuated in time, so there were no casualties.
The successive spontaneous combustion incidents have also made a group of car owners wonder whether WM's "locking" of the vehicle is out of consideration to prevent spontaneous combustion. After all, GAC Toyota iA5, which was also plagued by spontaneous combustion, was also revealed last year to limit the power and battery performance of the vehicle through OTA.
According to the owner's revelations at the time, after a certain OTA upgrade, the vehicle's battery management system limited the usable capacity of the battery to 83.5%, and the discharge power was also limited to 95kW, and the vehicle's mileage and power were seriously affected.
This matter has also once made the "locking" of new energy vehicles and the abuse of OTA upgrades a hot topic on the Internet.
Spontaneous combustion has become weima's biggest pain
The reason why we can easily associate "locking electricity" with "spontaneous combustion" is not because we have prejudices about the WM brand, but because this "high-intensity spontaneous combustion" is not the first time that weima has appeared.
In October 2020, there were three spontaneous combustion incidents in Weima, and on October 5 and October 13, two EX5 operating EX5s in Shaowu City, Fujian Province, spontaneously combusted, and successive accidents also caused the local transportation bureau to order the suspension of EX5 taxi operations.
On October 27, in the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, a WM EX5 exploded violently, and then the relevant units immediately issued a notice prohibiting electric vehicles from entering the basement. Subsequently, WM officials also issued a statement, saying that due to the problems with the batteries provided by the supplier, the models involved will be recalled to replace the battery packs.
Successive negative events seem to have also caused Weima to be "seriously injured", coupled with the serious homogenization of its own products and the lack of core competitiveness, this new force, which was once on an equal footing with "Wei Xiaoli", has gradually shown fatigue in sales.
WM sales fell behind
Remember that the first "out of the circle" of Weima Automobile was a bet made by the boss Shen Hui and Wang Xing, the founder of the US group, Wang Xing believes that after a few years, there will only be three new car-making forces in China, such as Weilai, Xiaopeng and Ideal, while Shen Hui believes that Weima will definitely enter the top three, and threatens that if Weima enters the top three, he hopes that Wang Xing can personally send him a takeaway.
At that time, Weima, which was gaining momentum, did have the confidence of "shouting", but as the moat of the three major new car-making forces dug deeper and deeper, other second-tier new forces were also constantly exerting their strength, and it was no surprise that Weima had officially "fallen behind" last year.
According to the official data, WM Motors in 2021 the annual delivery of new cars is 44157, only ranked fifth among the new forces, not to mention "Wei Xiaoli", even Nezha has been with 69674 units of sales, far ahead of Weima, and behind Weima there are also more than 40,000 new cars delivered zero running in the tiger's eyes.
In the current situation, it is obviously unrealistic for Weima to re-enter the top three, and whether they can retain their position in the second echelon in 2022 may be the most worrying thing for them.
However, the frequent spontaneous combustion incidents have a great impact on new car sales, but the biggest problem in front of WM is the lack of competitiveness at the product level. At present, WM seems to have a rich product line, but in fact, its main sales are still supported by ex5 models, such as the main intelligent EX6, W6 and the car E.5 for the online car market have not contributed too much sales, in other words, consumers who buy WM do not value the highlights such as intelligence and automatic driving advertised by WM, on the contrary, they just want a "cheap electric SUV".
Today, this main model has disappointed consumers again and again, if WM can't even keep this last basic disk, then I'm afraid they will also completely degenerate from the head car company of the new force to a second-tier brand that relies on online car sales.
