Fu Guoping, born in 1944, is a famous contemporary Chinese oil painter, a native of Wenchang, Hainan, who grew up in Shuxiang Mendi and has loved art since childhood. In 1960, he was admitted to the Affiliated High School of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and in 1998, he studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. For more than 60 years, he has created a large number of propaganda posters, illustrations, prints and oil paintings. He is especially known for his landscape oil paintings. He is currently the honorary president of the Hainan Artists Promotion Association, the special painter of the Hainan Provincial Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, the consultant of the Haikou Artists Association, the chairman of the Hainan Branch of the Vice Chairman of the China Oil Painting Sketching Club, the vice president of the China Calligraphy and Painting Association, the director of the Chinese Painters Association, the first-class artist of the Beijing Bayi Painting Academy, and the member of the Art Committee of the China Art Platform.

The oil painter Fu Guoping poured great enthusiasm into sketching, and the western Indian tradition of outer light sketching and the natural tradition of Chinese landscape painting were skillfully integrated by him, so that his pastoral, wilderness, beach, reef, harbor, village, jungle, and path were vivid and condensed, delicate and generalized, the colors were strong and thick, the brushstrokes were wild and introverted, and the painter's landscape sketches have stood out from the mortar of realism and constructed a painting language of "freehand" oil painting with distinct personality and self-reliance.
"Freehand" is born out of the spiritual resources of traditional Chinese culture, that is, as the Tang Dynasty Zhang Yanyuan said: "The intention is to save the pen first, and the painting is to be full of intention." "Artistic creation is not just a reproduction of the object, only the painter's subjective spirit and imagination ability beyond the objective shape, is the real sense of the work of art." With his sincerity in art, his profound and unique understanding of life and nature, and his accumulation of modeling ability and cultivation over the years, Fu Guoping has gradually liberated himself from the concept of "art reflects objectivity" and created a freehand world of his own that is "seemingly real but not real".
