Wu Xinquan, born in 1912, is a native of Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. This general who came out of Hunan was born with a fierce temper, and he fought very bravely, but he also had courage and strategy. In 1950, Wu Xinquan received an urgent order from his superiors: in order to prevent the war from changing, the 39th Army went to Liaonan to assemble and prepare to participate in the war.
When he received the order, he immediately deployed and prepared to leave, when his son was just on the fourth day of his birth. Before leaving, he instructed his wife, "Get well and wait for me to come back!" After saying that, he led his army to the northeast. In August 1950, he went to Shenyang to attend a conference to discuss the current situation and the formation of the Northeast Border Defense Army.
At that time, many people felt that the equipment of the United States was more advanced, so they proposed to consider the long term. At this time, Wu Xinquan said with a thick Hunan accent and a loud voice: "This is also afraid, that is also afraid, afraid of a bear!" They don't have three heads and six arms, just fight, beat up hard, let the world take a good look! When he finished speaking, the people present were stunned at first, and then the whole audience sounded the sound of drums. Suddenly, the atmosphere of the venue became lively.
The Battle of Unsan, originally according to our army's plan, was to first destroy one or two South Korean divisions in order to establish military prestige. However, what they did not expect was that they encountered the famous "ace division" in the US army: the 1st Cavalry Division! The history of the First Mounted Division can be traced back to the American Revolutionary War, which has not been defeated in two world wars, claiming to have been undefeated in 160 years, and the First Cavalry Division is also equipped with tanks, artillery, etc., and is very strongly equipped.
Of course, the 39th Army is not a vegetarian, and all along, the 39th Army has also made great achievements in battle and is an excellent army in our army. In the face of a powerful enemy army, Wu Xinquan led the volunteer army to fight bravely, and after two days and nights of fierce fighting, most of the 8th Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division and the 12th Regiment of the pseudo-1st Division were annihilated by our army, and the Battle of Yunshan won a great victory.
Wu Xinquan set the record of the first confrontation between the Chinese and American armies in modern history, and severely damaged the US ace troops. This was the worst defeat since the formation of the First Mounted Division, shocking the US government and opposition, and US congressmen accused MacArthur of taking the enemy lightly, and even demanded that President Truman replace MacArthur.
Later, Wu Xinquan led the 116th Division into Pyongyang first, becoming the first volunteer army to enter Pyongyang, and Pyongyang was never occupied by enemy troops again. In the third campaign, Wu Xinquan led the 39th Army to lead the attack on Seoul and occupied the South Korean Presidential Palace. After the start of the Fourth Campaign, Wu Xinquan led the 39th Army to annihilate more than 3,300 enemy troops and capture more than 800 American troops in the interspersed operation to Hengcheng, setting a record for the largest number of American troops captured by the volunteer army in a single battle.
Although Wu Xinquan had just been changed from military political commissar to commander before he joined the Korean War, his combat ability was not bad at all, and he had courage and strategy in combat. Even MacArthur, the U.S. military, once said, "Wu Xinquan is a terrible person." After the end of the Korean War, Wu Xinquan served as deputy chief of staff of the Northeast Military Region and chief of staff of the Shenyang Military Region, and in 1955, Wu Xinquan was awarded the rank of lieutenant general.
