The contraceptive pill is a combination of hormones used by women to avoid pregnancy, mostly oral dosage forms, mostly made of estrogen, estradiol and progesterone, and is the most common drug contraceptive method.
The estrogen component in oral contraceptives promotes the synthesis of serum globulins associated with blood clotting in the liver, promoting the formation of a hypercoagulable state of the blood, thereby increasing the risk of venous thromboembolism.
The level of its risk is related to the amount of estrogen dose in the preparation. Long-term or irrational use can put blood in a hypercoagulable state, which can increase the risk of venous thrombosis and, in severe cases, life-threatening.
