The Nineteenth Route Army was attacked on both sides and was forced to withdraw from the battle. Afterwards, Chiang Kai-shek sent He Yingqin to Shanghai to sign the "Songhu Armistice Agreement" with General Shirakawa Yoshinori. Under the agreement, Japanese troops could garrison troops in Shanghai, while Nationalist troops could not garrison troops in the area. After the agreement was signed, General Yoshinori Shirakawa thought he had won a complete victory, so he began to get carried away.
