We all know that the literary attainments of Cao Cao's three fathers and sons are very high, especially Cao Cao and Cao Zhi, and Cao Pi is actually not bad. Cao Pi's relationship with the Seven Sons of Jian'an was very close, especially with Wang Cang, one of the Seven Sons of Jian'an. Wang Cang was originally a subordinate of Liu Biao in Jingzhou, but because Liu Biao had no ambitions and no talent for knowledge, Wang Cang was not reused in Jingzhou. After Liu Biao's death, Liu Chun surrendered to Cao Cao, and Wang Cang followed him to Cao Cao's camp.
It was only at Cao Cao that Wang Cang was reused and given the title of Marquis of Guannei, which won the trust of Cao's father and son. When Cao Pi had not yet become emperor of Wei, he often held banquets at home, invited Wang Cang and others to drink and talk about life, and at the end of the day, he also chanted poems and compared them. The rise of Wei and Jin literature is because of the interests and hobbies of these people.
In 217 AD, Wang Yue died on his way back to Yecheng with Sun Quan's army. At Wang Cang's funeral, because Cao Pi knew that Wang Cang loved to learn donkey barking before he was alive, he proposed that the guests who attended Wang Cang's funeral learn donkey calling together to mourn Wang Cang. This is the famous "donkey song funeral" of the Three Kingdoms. Cao Pi in this period should be the most frank, and it gradually changed because of the competition with Cao Zhi for the throne.
