But the person I want to talk about today probably doesn't pay much attention to people, but he is similar to the role of "sweeping priest". It can be said that without him, there would be no later Yuan Shikai. This person is xu Shichang, who can be called the most cattle president of the Republic of China.
Sun Yat-sen
The Republic of China period was an era of turmoil, and the deepest impression left on people was the chaos of war and horses. And the old saying has clouds of "a hundred useless students are students", as if in that chaotic world, people who read books can only become a spectator. And Xu Shichang, a seemingly ordinary student, has used his own body to practice and created an extraordinary republic of China story. Xu Shichang, who was also a fellow villager in Henan province with Yuan Shikai, was a typical literati intellectual, and when Yuan Shikai pillared him to pass the jinshi, Xu Shichang in turn played an indelible role in Yuan Shikai's military training at the Tianjin small station. And after Yuan Shikai's Tianjin Small Station training, he became Yuan Shikai's most important adviser.

Yuan Shikai often honored Xu Shichang, the right and left arm of the 4-year-old himself, "Ju Ren Brother", which shows Xu Shichang's position in Yuan Shikai's heart. If Xu Shichang was not under Yuan Shikai in terms of ability, Xu Shichang was the governor of Northeast China when Yuan Shikai became the governor of the northeast. In contrast, Xu Shichang faced a more difficult problem than Yuan Shikai, when the Japanese, Russians and local bandits in the northeast could be said to be crisscrossed by various forces. However, Xu Shichang relied on his own scholar to hold the northeast under the territory of the Great Qing, so as not to let the Manchu Qing lose his birthplace. Although Xu Shichang and Yuan Shikai had a very good personal relationship, when Yuan Shikai proposed to be emperor, Xu Shichang was strongly opposed. After the fruitless Xu Shichang left silently, when Yuan Shikai fell ill and died, he came out to turn the tide and clean up the mess for Yuan Shikai.

Yuan Shikai spanned the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China in his lifetime, successfully deceived Cixi and Li Hongzhang, and governed the Beiyang warlords in an orderly manner. There are not many people who can enter his eyes, and xu Shichang is probably the only one who can make him both respected and afraid. Xu Shichang, who served as president of the Republic of China from 1918 to 1922 after Yuan Shikai's death, was unable to obtain an inch of land from China's territory despite the racking of his brains by the Japanese. Moreover, when Xu Shichang stepped down from the presidency and lived in seclusion in Tianjin, the head of Japan's great secret service, Kenji Doihara, repeatedly solicited him, but also failed to work. Although the Japanese thought of doing something to Xu Shichang, the Japanese did not dare to provoke Xu Shichang until Xu's death in 1939 due to his prestige.
