Located in jiaodong peninsula, Penglai Aishan and Gushan mountain is the first anti-Japanese base area established behind enemy lines in the whole of Shandong and even the whole country, which is about 50 kilometers south of Penglai City, located at the intersection of Penglai, Qixia and Longkou, water and land transportation is very convenient, in addition, here is connected to the Kuncheng Mountain Anti-Japanese Base Area in the east, west of the DazeShan Anti-Japanese Base Area, located in the core of the entire Jiaodong Base Area, the geographical location is very important. The leading organs of the party, government, and army in the Jiaodong base area were all set up here, and for a long time they have been coveted by the Japanese and the hypocritical stubborn.
In July 1940, the Japanese fascists, who were trapped in the quagmire of the Chinese battlefield and could not extricate themselves, issued a baitout to the Kuomintang government, and under the inducement of the Japanese army, a group of surrender factions led by Wang Jingwei, vice president of the Kuomintang, were eager to stir up trouble and vigorously advocated "Sino-Japanese cooperation"; at the same time, the Japanese army also strengthened its attack on the base areas behind our enemy lines. On 6 July, about 300 japanese troops and some puppet troops, armed with 1 heavy machine gun, 4 light machine guns, and 2 mortars, directly attacked our Aigushan base area in an attempt to destroy the party, government, and army leading organs in our base area with the so-called tactic of "black tiger digging out the heart."
In order to prevent our army from moving before the enemy arrived, the Japanese army also mobilized a pseudo-garrison stationed in the Daxindian stronghold, and informed the recalcitrant Cai Jinkang's troops, asking them to dispatch about 200 troops each to block the passage from the Aigu Mountains to other areas, with the intention of "catching turtles in an urn."
After receiving the information from its superiors, the 15th Regiment of the 5th Detachment of the Shandong Column of the Eighth Route Army immediately dispatched and seized the commanding heights on the road that the enemy had to pass through to sweep the base area with 3 battalions of troops, forming a three-sided encirclement of the enemy. In order to capture our leading organs as soon as possible, the enemy's light troops rushed forward, completely disregarding reconnaissance, and as a result, they rushed into our army's blocking position, and the 2nd and 3rd battalions of the 15th Regiment concentrated their fire and fired fiercely, and completely disrupted the enemy's marching form on the spot.
Seeing that our army had made preparations in advance, the puppet army and the stubborn army that cooperated with the Japanese army in combat immediately broke away from the formation of the Japanese army and retreated to the northeast and the east respectively in the spirit of "dead friends do not die poor roads." Only about 1 squadron of the Japanese army remained to form a confrontation with our army. The Japanese army was divided into 2 groups, and a group of enemies seized a nearby village, deployed heavy machine guns and mortars on the north side of the village, and at the same time put light machine guns on the roof and fired back at the commanding heights of the twin mountains controlled by our army to the north to cover the infantry attack; the other way the enemy occupied a small high ground on the east side of the village, and used this as a foothold to attack the twin mountains controlled by our army.
The light and heavy machine guns, mortars and grenadiers of the Japanese army fired fiercely at our 1st Battalion, which was holding on to Shuangshan, and then more than 100 Japanese troops attacked our army in two ways. The 1st Battalion, under the command of its commander, responded calmly, inflicting a large amount of casualties on the enemy with fierce and accurate machine rifle fire, combined with grenades. One light machine gun of the 1st Battalion was mounted behind a huge rock at the top of the hill, spraying fierce fire at the enemy, tightly controlling the Route of the Japanese Army up the hill, and suppressing the enemy infantry.
After the Japanese army discovered our army's machine gun position, it immediately concentrated its fire on the huge rock, causing the stones to fly randomly, but our machine guns were hidden in the enemy shooting dead ends under the huge rock, and the fire was not interrupted, and the fierce fire caused the Japanese army to charge many times in a row and was repelled.
Unwilling to be defeated, the Japanese squadron commander, Cyano, readjusted his strength and firepower, personally wielding his command knife to supervise the battle, and even transferred the machine gun's deputy shooter and ammunition hand to participate in the charge. Under the enemy's onslaught again, the 1st Battalion ran out of ammunition and could only engage in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy, and the 1st Battalion troops pounced on the enemy with a fearless spirit, and the enemy was crushed by the counter-assault of our army. At this time, the 2nd Battalion rushed to reinforce the 1st Battalion, and they quickly swerved back to the side of the small highland controlled by the Japanese army, posing as if they wanted to cut off the enemy's attacking troops.
