Zhou's face into the tide

The Zhou clan originated from the Surname Ji, and there were many branches of the clan, of which the "Ru'nan Zhou Clan" under the Ji Fa of Zhou Wu was the largest sect.

Zhou shi should be one of the earlier surnames in the tide, and the twenty-fourth year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty has been the best proof of the Chaoyang scholar Zhou Hao (non-Zhou Guanghao) Jinshi and the first. However, when Zhou Ho's ancestors moved into the tide, and where Zhou Ho's descendants are now separated, there is no way to verify. According to the available information alone, the Chaoshan Zhou clan was mostly the famous Song Dynasty scholar Zhou Dunyi, who called Zhou Dunyi the ancestor of the Song Dynasty. Its tide inflow is briefly described as follows:

Migration from Hunan Province: The process of migration into the tide of this series is relatively clear. In the Southern Song Dynasty, there was a Daozhou jinshi Zhou Shumei, who was the seventh-generation grandson of the famous theorist Zhou Dunyi, who lived in Daozhou, Hunan Province, and was famous for generations. Zhou Meisuo was appointed governor of Chaozhou Prefecture in the third year of Song Chunhu (1243), and in March of the fourth year (1256) of Baohu, he was appointed as a judge of Guangdong transit and sentenced, and returned to his hometown at the end of his term, when Zhou Meisuo's grandfather Zhou Xuandao was still alive. In the fifth year of Jingding (1264), Zhou Xuandao knew that the Song Dynasty would fall, and Daozhou would be a place for the warriors to fight, that is, he summoned his grandson Zhou Meisuo, who had been an official in Chaozhou, to the bedside to give instructions, and ordered him to take three of his brothers and their relatives to migrate to the crowds, and each of them chose a place to settle in the countryside. At the behest of his grandfather, Zhou Meizun led three brothers and their families into Chaozhou, and first lived in Chaozhou Fucheng, Chaoyang County Xinxing Township Lagang (now Chaoyang Lugang Town), and Haiyang County Guanshan Township to create township registration. Subsequently, with the multiplication of the tribes, they were spread to various places in Chaoshan and Hailufeng. Descendants are distributed in Xiwei Zhou, which is now Lugang Town, Chaoyang, Taoxi, Shaxi, Dongtang, Hepi and Huilai Jinghai, Kuitan, Tutian and Jiazi in Xiashan Town, Xiajiashan Mountain, Kuiling and Quicksand in Puning, and Hepu and Hailufeng in Shantou City are mostly their descendants. For example, Zhou Guanghao, a Chaoyang jinshi in the Ming Dynasty, is the third generation grandson of Zhou Yiran, the ancestor of the Taoxi Zhou clan. Rao Zongyi's "but not many descendants" in his unfinished manuscript of Ethnography seems to be debatable.

Zhou's face into the tide

Because the three Brothers of Zhou Meisuo entered the tide at the same time, in order to clarify the lineage of Zhaomu, this faction enshrined Zhou Xuandao, who had never settled in the tide, as the first ancestor.

This branch of Juguanshan did reproduce more slowly, and gradually mixed with the Zhou people who later moved to the area, and agreed to return to the sect. To this day, only a small part of the Chenghai Zhou clan still claims to have moved in from Daozhou and is the grandson of Zhou Dunyi and Zhou Meisuo.

The other, the Zhou clan, is more complex and numerous. They did not move directly from Hunan Province, nor did they follow the migration route of most of the hipsters from the tide through Putian, but relatively tortuous. The genealogy of the Zhou clan in Chenghai Port makes it very clear that their migration tide ancestors were from "Wenzhou Prefecture in Zhejiang Province along the Zhen River into Fujian Jianzhen, and reach putian, and then gradually moved to Tingzhou, Yongding, and then through Longxi, Zhao'an to Raoping, Haiyang ... Since then, they have been distributed in Chao'an Dongjin, ChenghaiGuanshan, Chaoyangxiashan and Jieyang, Puning and other places. The migration time of this large tribe has been first and later, the far moved from the end of the Song Dynasty, the near migration from the Ming Chongzhen period, and there are various theories about the place of departure, some say that they moved from Putian, some say that they moved from Tingzhou, some say that they moved from Longxi, and some say that they moved from Zhangzhou. Even the same village and surname are also very inconsistent, on the surface giving people an impression of divergent opinions and inconsistent opinions, in fact, as long as you carefully understand their migration routes, it is not difficult to find, tracing back to the roots, most of them are still considered to be descendants of Zhou Dunyi. It is only because the migration route is more tortuous, and the time lineage is also more difficult to sort out.

Zhou's face into the tide

This branch of the Zhou surname, which migrated from Hunan to Zhejiang, then from Zhejiang to Fujian, and then from Fujian to the tide, due to the difference in time and place of departure, the ancestors of the migration tide that they respected were not as simple as the Zhou Xuandao sect of the Next Zhou clan, and directly recognized Zhou Xuandao as the first ancestor, but each worshiped an ancestor. Among them, the more representative surnames are Zhou Zonggui (moved in from Dingzhou), Zhou Shoulong (moved in by Yongding), and Zhou Yao (moved in from Tingzhou). Most of the descendants of Zhou Zonggui lived in Chaozhou, the descendants of Zhou Shoulong lived in Chenghai, the later branches of Chaoyang, Raoping and Puyu, the descendants of Zhou Yao lived in Chaoyang, and some of the Chenghai Guanshan were also under his faction. Of course, this is only an overview of the distribution in the Ming and Qing dynasties.

There is no accurate figure for the total population of the Chaoshan Zhou clan. It is estimated that there are about 150,000 people, of which Chaoyang is the most, about 60,000 people, followed by Puning, about 20,000 people, Chenghai is about 10,000 people, and the rest are scattered in Chaoshan counties and cities.
