A year ago in February, Chen Linqiong was at the bottom of her life. Until January 2021, when the symptoms of "pharyngitis" were good and bad, Chen Linqiong took advantage of joining the new company to go to the hospital for examination. After reading the results of the nasal endoscopy, the doctor told Chen Linqiong that it might be very serious, and Chen Linqiong quipped: "How serious can it be?" Could it be nasopharyngeal cancer? The doctor replied solemnly, "Probably." ”
This result made Chen Linqiong confused. The doctor told her that there were many people queuing up for the test, and she only had 5 minutes to consider whether to do a biopsy for further confirmation. Chen Linqiong called her father while crying, and his father told her to listen to the doctor and do the examination.
The biopsy needed to clip three pieces of meat from the nasal cavity without anesthesia, "At that time, there was a piece of meat that could not be clipped out, and the doctor pulled my whole person up, which was very painful." Chen Linqiong recalled. Three or four days later, the results came out and there was a high suspicion of nasopharyngeal cancer.

The final diagnosis also needs an immunohistochemical test, and Chen Linqiong returned to her hometown in Chaozhou and waited with her parents for the final result. "It's like waiting for trial," Chen Linqiong's father described the days of suffering. In the end, the miracle did not appear, and Chen Linqiong was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer. After the diagnosis, Chen Linqiong, accompanied by her mother, came to Zhuhai for treatment, and the doctor designed a treatment plan for her that included 3 chemotherapy and 33 radiotherapy. Chen Linqiong cut off her long hair, changed into a hospital gown, and inserted a PICC tube (a deep vein catheter) into her arm, which meant that she officially began to fight cancer.
The process of treatment is painful. The side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy made Chen Linqiong's body very fragile, with repeated episodes of nausea and vomiting, and even fainting in severe cases. "Radiation therapy requires irradiation of the entire area from the nose to the neck, and the organs in this area are affected." Chen Linqiong said.
During the second simultaneous chemotherapy, the vomiting reaction became particularly severe, and Chen Linqiong said that during that time, she could only drink nutritional powder to survive.
She has suffered a lot of pain physically, and what makes Chen Linqiong even more uncomfortable is that her boyfriend proposed to break up during her illness, which made her emotions close to the brink of collapse. "During that time, I would always get up in the middle of the night and cry secretly, sometimes brush the circle of friends to see other people's lives, and then think about my own situation, and sorrow comes from it." When she cried because of the breakup, a nurse held her for a long time. The most memorable comfort for Chen Linqiong came from a 90-year-old grandfather in the next ward, who also had cancer because he was too old to eat through nasogastric tubes, but he still encouraged Chen Linqiong to eat well. Lin Ruochen is Chen Linqiong's college classmate, and the two have known each other for nearly 7 years. She would make video calls with Chen Linqiong every day to talk about the day's events. As early as February, shortly after the diagnosis, Chen Linqiong had the idea of studying for graduate school. "At that time, I felt that I needed to rest for a long time after being sick, and I didn't know how to make good use of this time, so I had the idea of going to graduate school." Chen Linqiong said.
Chen Linqiong's decision was supported by her parents, and Chen's father told reporters: "At that special moment, as long as it does not affect the body, we will support what the daughter wants to do, and there will be more hope with a goal." ”
Due to her interest in psychology since childhood, Chen Linqiong chose to apply for the psychology major of Guangzhou University. After returning home for recuperation after finishing treatment in June 2021, Chen Linqiong began to review and prepare for the exam. Since she had just finished treatment and still had some problems with her body, such as the sclerosis of the neck fibers that led to the inability to sit for a long time, she had to stretch every time she read a book for a while, and she could only guarantee three or four hours of study time a day.
