In this regard, Zhang Xueliang, who lived 101 years old, said with infinite emotion in his later years: "My thing is to be 36 years old, and there will be no more after that." What a 36-year-old. From 21 to 36, that's my life. ”
After the death of the "two Chiang Kai-sheks", in 1990, the 90-year-old Zhang Shaoshuai completely restored his personal freedom.
After that, he and his wife Miss Zhao Si went to the United States to visit relatives and friends. Later, he chose to settle in Honolulu, Hawaii.
On October 14, 2001, Zhang Xueliang died at Strauby Hospital in Honolulu, USA. He died on December 31, 2011 years old.
From regaining his freedom to his death, Zhang Xueliang had ten years of free time, and it was reasonable to say that he could go anywhere. However, what is surprising is that in this decade, Zhang Xueliang has never returned to the mainland of the motherland.
Why Zhang Xueliang did not go back to the mainland and his hometown in the northeast to see, various views of opinion are fiercely debated, and there is no consensus.

Ah Hui's surname is Li. In 1988, after Chiang Ching-kuo's death, Ah Hui succeeded him as "president."
After Ah Hui became president, he was forced by pressure from all sides, so he released Zhang Xueliang. Zhang Xueliang has since completely regained his freedom.
However, Ah Hui put forward a condition for Zhang Xueliang, that is, not to return to the mainland. You are not allowed to return to your hometown in the northeast.

Ah Hui's expression was very serious, holding an invitation letter in his hand, and asked Zhang Xueliang: "I am not thin to you, why do you still want to do this set behind my back?" I trust you so much, how can you make such a name behind your back. Do you still want to do the Xi'an Incident or the Taipei Incident? Ah Hui's words were very ugly, and Zhang Xueliang felt very embarrassed at that time.
The mainland could not return, and Zhang Xueliang did not want to stay in Taiwan Province, so he applied to go to the United States again.
In fact, Zhang Xueliang really wanted to go back to his hometown in the northeast to see. In this regard, Lin Yuanquan, an old housekeeper who has followed Zhang Xueliang for more than half a century, said: "When I was in Taiwan Province, the young marshal told me once, and then came to Hawaii and told me twice. ”
In 1998, when Lin Yuanquan pushed Zhang Xueliang's wheelchair to an intersection, Zhang Xueliang suddenly said, "I want to go over there!" ”
