In this way, the Hongsheng wheel drove at full horsepower and, as usual, began the night voyage of the day. However, no one expected that what happened next would be like a nightmare for all travelers, and it would become a shocking case that caused a sensation in all walks of life at that time.
In the middle of the night, when the Hongsheng passenger ship drove to the Lion Tomb in Wusongkou, everyone had already fallen asleep. More than a dozen bandits dressed as merchants were quietly wandering around the PLA soldiers. Suddenly, the bandit leader Huang Zhiying rushed into the wheelhouse of the Hongsheng ship with a gun and scolded the driver to drive the boat to the center of the river.
Another bandit named Xu Xichang immediately ran to the roof of the ship to put up a sentry to look out, the other bandits saw that the time was ripe, suddenly took out a pistol from their arms and aimed at the PLA soldiers, with the sound of "snap-snap-snap" bursts of gunfire, two fighters were unfortunately shot and fell in a pool of blood on the spot.

The cruel bandits then threw two sacrificial fighters and two wounded fighters into the river. The other warriors gritted their teeth, and the passengers were stunned by the bandits' evil deeds and stood still.
The mad atrocities were not over, the bandits took the guns they had snatched from the soldiers, pointed at the passengers, and said, "If you want money or death, if you want to hand over your money alive, if you don't want to live, this is the end." Immediately afterward, two wounded PLA fighters were thrown alive by bandits into the river. The tourists were frightened and stupid, and one by one they obediently handed over their money and belongings to the bandits.
All the passengers were forcibly searched, and none of them were spared. In addition to money, all valuable items were looted, including cloth, fountain pens, rice flour oil, etc., all of which added up to more than 5.4 million yuan (old coins).
At this time, a sailboat suddenly appeared on the river surface, and the bandit Xu Xichang saw the boatman, pointed a gun at him, and roared, "Old man, drive the boat over, otherwise it will kill you." The boat owner had no choice but to drive the boat under the Hongsheng ship, and when the bandits who had successfully robbed the robbery withdrew, they took 3 wounded PLA fighters and 4 passengers and escaped on the hijacked sailing ship.
After that, they changed to another sailing ship. When disembarking, the bandits strangled 3 PLA fighters alive by the river, and strangled 4 other passengers to death, burying them all.
Three days later, the bandits hooked up with local Kuomintang lurking agents in Nantong and killed 4 innocent cadres and masses.
This vicious case has had a great impact on the local area, and the local people talk about the bandits, and some of them are also wrapped up in participating in the evil deeds of the bandits. Chen Yi, the mayor of Shanghai at the time, was furious and demanded that the Songhu Police Headquarters at that time must capture these bandits within two months, bring them to justice, and give an account to the sacrificed SOLDIER soldiers and innocent people, and at the same time, beat down the arrogance of the enemy.
The Military Justice Division of the headquarters received an order that the case must be solved within a time limit, and everyone felt a lot of pressure. However, in order to avenge the comrades-in-arms and to protect the safety of the people's lives and property, no one has retreated.
When analyzing the case, everyone believed that although the bandits had fled to Nantong, they must have their own dens in Shanghai. Going to Nantong to handle the case is time-consuming and laborious, and it is not necessarily possible to achieve any results, so it is better to let the local garrison launch a clearance operation to strike grass and snakes. At the same time, the local people were also mobilized to arrest the bandits by the whole people, so that the bandits had nowhere to hide.
The local people have been oppressed by these bandits for many years, and when they heard the news, everyone took pickaxes and hoes everywhere to inquire about the bandits' information and search for their whereabouts. Within a few days, they returned to Shanghai and went into hiding.
Their whereabouts were finally captured by witty investigators. In order to catch them all and never have a problem, no immediate action was taken. At the end of October, investigators had clues that the bandits were going to meet in a restaurant. The Judge Advocate General's Office considered the time to arrest and had established a strict confidentiality plan and arrest plan for this purpose. On December 29, Huang Zhiying, Xu Xichang and other main criminals were taken to the execution ground.
