In the Chinese battlefield, the public concession in Shanghai, which had been controlled by Britain and the United States, could no longer maintain its independent position, and soon fell under the iron heel of the Japanese army. At this point, the whole of Shanghai was under the control of the Japanese army.
However, the Chinese people did not succumb to the enslavement of the Japanese army, and there were still a large number of anti-Japanese forces hidden in Shanghai, such as the agents of the Kuomintang Central Committee and the military command, our underground party members, and spontaneous anti-Japanese non-governmental organizations. In order to maintain the stability under their rule, the Japanese naturally did not give up and arrested anti-Japanese elements everywhere, and tortured those who were iron-boned and refused to surrender and renegade. All those who have been in the prison of the Japanese gendarmerie have gritted their teeth and hated the torture they suffered in prison. At that time, there was a kind of torture called "swinging" in the Japanese gendarmerie prison, and the four gendarmes often used it as a "game" to practice the strength of the arm. They called out the arrested prisoners, some held hands, some tugged on their feet, and then lifted up, first up and down, left and right, and then the rhythm of the four people became consistent, and then they swung left and right sharply, like a swing.
After repeating this for three or five minutes, the body activity sweated, and the people were tired of practicing, so they violently fell down the people who were still in mid-air at a great distance, and fell to the point that their heads were broken and bleeding, and even fractured, but they laughed and walked away.
Living in a normal prison, even if not during the interrogation, makes people feel like they are living in the past. The Japanese Gendarmerie prison was littered with bed bugs, fleas, and mosquitoes, and handcuffed and shackled prisoners were left to bite at their bodies. In winter, the cold wind blows all over the house like an ice and snow cave, freezing so that people can't sleep, and there are often cases of frozen people dying in prisons. However, in the summer, it may not be good. More than a dozen people were crammed into cramped cells, had to sit cross-legged, and could not be transported in batches. The room was so hot that people were sweating and smelling.
The daily diet of prisoners in prison is not as good as that of ordinary families, and they can only eat two meals a day, breakfast time is 9:30, and the second meal is 4:30 pm. It was rice made of mixed grains, a small bowl or two bowls, and it was all made of moldy grain. Many prisoners are emaciated or even sick because they do not have enough to eat or eat moldy food.
Whenever the Japanese interrogated prisoners, the interrogators had two different faces, and they first pretended to be very kind, and all they said was sweet words, such as "China and Japan have the same language and the same language" and "the establishment of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere", and so on. If they don't, they immediately change their faces and be tortured.
